Stay safe[edit]

The Appalachian are mountain sides that run along the east coast of the USA. The mountains are not as big as the rockies or the sierra mountains located in the west coast.

Safety is paramount on the mountains. The entire area is under jurisdiction of the US national park service.

Wildlife is common and sometimes you might see them sometimes you might not.

Going to the mountains you will be in bear country. Observe bear rules. DO not feed bear or any wild animal. A fed animal is a dead one. Keep trash and food in secure bear proof containers. Bears have been known to enter tents and search for food. Snakes are common on the trail including a few venomous ones. They will not attack at random but will do so if cornered or the snake determines you are a threat.

Wear bug spray when ever possible. Ticks, bugs and other creatures can come to you.

Make sure you have a physical map and not a mobile phone one as reception up there is slim.

If you are hurt under any circumstance and are alone wait for help. Most visitors travel the mountain frequently so you wont be alone for long.

Make sure you bring enough food and water supplies for the trip.
