Amarapura is a city in Mandalay Division in Central Myanmar. It was the capital of Burma in the early 19th century and is the home of a famous bridge.

  • U Bein's Bridge - spanning the width of the Taungthaman Lake, this winding 1.2km marvel is 200 years old but still sturdy (a testament to the strength of the teak used in its construction). Pictures of monks crossing it are almost a stock image of a visit to Myanmar. It is best to visit around sunset when the setting sun frames the bridge and the trees that stand in the lake.

  • Kyauksein Pagoda(Mandalay)Kyauksein Pagoda which is previously known as the Varocana Kyauksein Zedi. It was Myanmar's very first jade pagoda becoming one of the tourist attraction in Myanmar.It is made entirely of jade and also constructed from the precious stone. It was started to build in 2012 and completed in 2015. The jade pagoda and the pagoda's ground was donated by jewellery trader, U Soe Naing and Aye Aye Khaing. They spent over 11000 tons of jade to build the pagoda. It stands a height of 75 foot tall structure. The exterior walls are tessellated with carved amulets and inscription. You can also see carved jade footprints of Buddha where devotees and traveller can leave donations. If you go there, you can learn the stories of Buddha's previous lives and the chronicles of Myanamar's kings because of the pagoda features of jade pieces which carved to depict.

Kyauksein Pagoda also known as a ' Werawsana ' means it was built for all peoples who worship and paid homage to it. They may receive good blessings, enjoy and peace. So that, the name means prosperity, good fortune, wealth, resistent from all trouble and wish-fulfilling.

Though there is a small town at Amarapura, and there are a few hotels, none are licenced for foreign travellers. Amarapura is usually visited on a day trip from Mandalay.
