Aiken is located off Interstate 20, only 20 minutes east of Augusta, GA and an hour west of Columbia, SC. Conveniently located only 2 ½ hours from many major southern cities, including Atlanta, Greenville, Charlotte, Charleston, Hilton Head Island and [Savannah]].


Augusta Regional Airport at Bush Field is located seven miles from downtown Augusta. Over 200,000 airline passengers per year take non-stop flights via Delta and American Airlines from the Augusta Regional Airport to three major airline hubs, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Charlotte. Non-stop flights to Washington-Reagan will commence in early 2020. In addition, rental cars are available from most major companies.   • Hopeland Gardens. This 14-acre garden features camellias, azaleas, live oaks, wisteria, dogwood, crepe myrtle and other Southern favorites for year-round beauty. Two wetlands ponds have boardwalks for close-up views of Chinese elms, cypress and other native plants. The Arboretum Trail encourages plant enthusiasts and spectators to discover all of the plants and trees the gardens have to offer. Hopelands Gardens is a designated SC National Heritage Corridor Discovery Site. The Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame & Museum is on the property. Concerts are held on Monday evenings April - June, times vary. In December, the gardens host Christmas in Hopelands, over 2 miles of lighted pathways, 30 holiday light displays, live entertainment, refreshments, all with free admission.
  • Hitchcock Woods. Located in the heart of Aiken, South Carolina, the Hitchcock Woods is one of the largest urban forests in the nation. With 2,100 acres of forestland and 70 miles of sandy trails, the Woods are a haven for hikers, equestrians, dog walkers, runners, bird watchers and nature lovers and history buffs. The extraordinary beauty of the Hitchcock Woods with its stunning variety of ecosystems is protected forever by a conservation easement held by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. In addition, the Hitchcock Woods has been designated as a South Carolina Heritage Trust site.

Aiken is one of South Carolina’s most popular cities, and with its many things to do, it’s easy to see why. The city is full of rich historical attractions and outdoor recreational activities. This is combined with several restaurants that offer delicious dishes and many unique shops. Aiken has a thriving downtown area in which visitors can find a variety of activities, and the city is also host to a number of events throughout the year that showcase some of the best concerts, food, and dance.

  • Aiken's Fall and Spring Steeplechase events are a wonderful way to spend a day seeing the horses fly, spending time with friends, and enjoying the beautiful Aiken weather while tailgating!
  • Aiken Bluegrass Festival. Held annually in May. All proceeds from the Aiken Bluegrass Festival benefit local charities. Consider spending a Friday and Saturday in Aiken this May for bluegrass music, good food, good friends and good times!

Aiken County Farmers Market operates as the oldest (in continuous operation at the same location) county farmers market in the State of South Carolina. Live oaks now shade the newly restored market while descendants from the early farmers’ families continue to sell their goods on the same tables. The Farmers Market, now as then, is a place where goods are offered for sale and recipes (and stories) are swapped with friends, old and new.
