Votes for deletion

From Wikitravel Shared
Jump to: navigation, search

This page contains lists of articles and images which are recommended for deletion. Any Wikitraveller can recommend an article or image for deletion, and any Wikitraveller can comment on the deletion nomination. Articles and images are presumed guilty until proven innocent. After fourteen (14) days of discussion, if a consensus is reached to retain an article, it won't be deleted. Otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator. Please read the Nominating and Commenting sections prior to nominating articles/images or commenting on nominations.

Archives

There are archives available for this page. Please do not edit the archives - instead, start a new thread.

Nominating

The basic format for a deletion nomination is the following:

Chicken
* Delete. Not a valid travel article topic. ~~~~

Please follow these steps when nominating an article or image for deletion:

  1. First read the deletion policy and verify that the article or image really is a candidate for deletion.
  2. For the article or image being proposed for deletion, add a vfd tag to the top of the article so that people viewing the article will know that it is proposed for deletion.
  3. Add a link to the article or image at the end of the list below, along with the reason why it is being listed for deletion. Sign your vote using four tildes ("~~~~"). List one article or image per entry.

Commenting

All Wikitravellers are asked to state their opinion about articles and images listed for deletion. The format for comments is:

Chicken
* Delete. Not a valid travel article topic. TravelNut 25:25, 31 Feb 2525 (EDT)
* Keep. There is a town in Alaska called Chicken. ~~~~

When leaving comments:

  1. First read the deletion policy and verify that the article or image really is a candidate for deletion.
  2. You may vote to delete, keep, or redirect the article. If your opinion is that the article should be kept or redirected, please state why you feel that way. Sign your vote using four tildes ("~~~~").

Deleting, or not

After fourteen (14) days of discussion, there will probably be consensus one way or the other. If the consensus is to keep, redirect or merge, then any Wikitraveller can do it. If you are redirecting, please remember to check for broken redirects or double redirects as a result of your move. Remove any VFD notices from that page and copy the deletion discussion to the talk page of the article being kept or redirected.

If the result is delete, then only an administrator can delete. Check if any article links to the image or article in question. After removing those links, delete the image or article.

After you keep/redirect/merge/delete the article, copy the deletion discussion to the appropriate archive.

  • A similar image is found at the USS North Carolina's web site, although not this exact image (the fisheye distortion matches, as do all lighting and shadows, but the image uploaded here is a much wider crop than any other image I've found on the web). Complicating matters is that the uploader is User:BattleshipNC, a username that implies official-ness. It's possible this is the full version of the image used for their website splash banner, and that BattleshipNC has the rights to release it as specified, but I certainly can't say for sure. LtPowers 19:23, 13 February 2012 (EST)
That user's only contributions on :en are entries for the battleship as well (though it needs a serious trimming!), I'd be inclined to believe they have the rights to the picture... though whether they really meant to public-domain it, I have lingering doubts about. Since it seems to be a public agency supporting them, or at least running their website (N. C. Department of Cultural Resources), it's got better odds than most. Leaning towards (weak) keep. -- D. Guillaime 17:54, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA officially owns this photograph and uploaded as such onto WikiTravel for public use. Images of the Ship fall under the public domain laws therefore are made for all to use. The website at battleshipnc.com does also hold this image and they are one in the same. Please do consider not deleting the image. Thank you. —The preceding comment was added by BattleshipNC (talkcontribs) .

Do you have any evidence that the photo is in the public domain? LtPowers 20:14, 13 April 2012 (EDT)

Images from User:Globentrekker

Delete. Request from owner of image (myself) to delete the image. Globentrekker 08:14, 16 April 2012 (EDT)

  • May I ask why? You just uploaded them, and they're very good pictures. LtPowers 08:55, 16 April 2012 (EDT)
An image clean up was requested of the article where they were linked to with users citing "poor quality" of images, ergo I removed my poor quality images. Globentrekker 10:17, 16 April 2012 (EDT)
  • I think they are nice. Jjtk 13:01, 16 April 2012 (EDT)
  • ? There's IMO nothing wrong with the quality of the pictures. Of course, if the uploader him/herself clearly does not want them here... Ypsilonatshared 08:39, 22 April 2012 (EDT)
  • Keep? I'm also confused. Where was the discussion requesting that you remove them from an article? --Peter Talk 16:01, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
I think the referenced discussion is this one: en:Talk:Stockholm#Image cleanup. -- Ryan 18:23, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
  • friends, I think that the above nomination of Image:Railmap.JPG can be the problem of User:Globentrekker or he has to do some more explaining - --Rein N. 15:43, 26 April 2012 (EDT)
    • Actually, I have no issue regarding the deletion of the Railmap.JPG as I realise now from doing a bit of research that SL (that's Storstockholms Lokaltrafik the public transport agency for Stockholm) didn't actually release it to the public domain (I confirmed this by contacting them at their contact centre at Centralstation when I passed through recently) and that was something I neglected to check when I uploaded it, so I don't mind that at all. In the Stockholm page my photos were judged to be low quality and it was requested they were removed from the article and as such I don't wish them to be hosted on wikitravel if they are not to be used in the article that I supplied them for. I'm sure you can understand this reasoning. Globentrekker 15:59, 26 April 2012 (EDT)
      • I still don't understand the reasoning. First, it seems that plenty of them would be fine to put in the article, and am skeptical that they should have ever been removed from it. Second, even if they are not in the article, having them online under the Creative Commons license enriches the quality of photography and information available on Stockholm in the open content world. Why would you want to retract them, having put in the effort to upload them? --Peter Talk 04:18, 27 April 2012 (EDT)
        • As far as image removal goes, well, you are free to comment on or read the discussion on en:Talk:Stockholm#Image cleanup. A member said the images were not of sufficient quality (over-exposed, under-exposed or shot from uninspiring angles were their comments). If you all feel so strongly they should remain then I'm not going to argue endlessly about this. Globentrekker 19:58, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

Image:CITYMX.JPG

  • Delete. Per comments just added to the image by User:Stefan2: "Copied from http://learnspanishdc.com/sobre-mexico-df dated April 2008. First uploaded to Commons in 2009. I've also tagged it as copyvio on Commons. Note that the Commons file has been moved to Commons:File:CIUDAD MEXICO, DF.jpg: the link above is currently a redirect". -- Ryan 18:35, 27 April 2012 (EDT)
  • Delete The file was uploaded to the Spanish website before it was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, so Wikimedia Commons can impossibly be the original source. Also note how the bottom of the image has been tactically cropped so as to remove the watermark: "2002©carlososcarruiz". Sorry if I didn't nominate it in the correct way when I added the copyvio tag; I'm rarely editing anything at Wikitravel. --Stefan2 20:19, 27 April 2012 (EDT)
  • Comment The file has now been deleted from Wikimedia Commons:
