Evan's message

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question on my en: user page, but check Special:Recentchanges and let me know if I got it right. --Evan 00:29, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Thank you!

Sapphire, thanks for the welcome message...but why don't you use the very handy {{intro}} message template? Looks better, but contains your information. Also, take a look at Wikitravel Shared:Templates for more templates. This is what the intro template looks like when applied:

Deletion request

Hi, Andrew. I want to list Image:LexingtonMAstatue.jpg for deletion but couldn't find where the Votes for Deletion nominations go. I marked it as vfd. Please assist :) Thanks, OldPine 17:39, 2 August 2006 (EDT)

Moving to Shared

Hi, Andrew,

I've noticed that you've been helping out a lot with moving language and technical infrastructure pages to Shared. I'd like to work on that too, but I was wondering if in most cases (liaison reports, expeditions and so forth) we couldn't just push the move tab for the whole pages instead of rebuilding them over there. Do you think that would help? Thanks, Rmx 16:36, 6 August 2006 (EDT)

Oops, sorry, I wrote the above thinking that this was your en: page. Anyway, the message is there. Cheers, Ricardo (Rmx) 16:38, 6 August 2006 (EDT)

Wikitravel Shared:Votes for deletion#Germany

Hi, I guess you mean "I think [[:Category:Germany]] supercedes this." But the colon before "Category" is missing and the VfD page is categorized into Category:Germany. --Episteme 18:24, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

Great map, but -- it's Oklahoma, not Oaklahoma. Jpatokal 03:29, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Ha. I even double checked to make sure I was spelling it correctly as I was typing. I'll get to work on fixing it. Thanks. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 03:51, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Files Needing Removal

I think that the files that I uploaded for the Sheki maps need to be deleted. These include the Japanse and English Versions. Thanks!

Imagecredit

I had been away for some time (was busy getting married), but it is good to see a message asking me to use my imagecredit template :) Thanks for incorporating it into the the Upload page. — Ravikiran r 05:48, 22 January 2007 (EST)

Congratulations! I was beginning to wonder what happened to you since I hadn't seen your name on the Recentchanges page for a while. I thought you got lost in New Jersey. :) I realized a couple weeks back that I could incorporate it so I jumped on it and after a few days I realized no one was using it so I copied and pasted the message to everyone that frequently uploads. :) -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 16:40, 22 January 2007 (EST)

Image:Iwamotoji PilgrimGirl.JPG

Err, what on earth are you doing? Jpatokal 23:09, 6 February 2007 (EST)

Well, that answers part of my question. I haven't any idea what happened. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 23:11, 6 February 2007 (EST)
I think we both uploaded the image at the same time, then you deleted both versions and now Wikitravel is very confused. I'll try to upload once more... Jpatokal 23:13, 6 February 2007 (EST)
Oh, okay. It seems to be working now. I thought by deleting I might be able to restore the image prior to Wikitravel's becoming confused, but when that didn't work I got confused. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 23:17, 6 February 2007 (EST)
Seems to be working now. Jpatokal 23:18, 6 February 2007 (EST)

Thanks

Thanks for the hints about the pages that needed to be restored. They're back online now. Tchüss! -- Ricardo (Rmx) 19:55, 26 February 2007 (EST)

You're welcome. -- Sapphire(Diskussion) • 22:48, 27 February 2007 (EST)

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your clean-up of my image summary for Image:StockholmStadshuset.jpg. I had used simply my typical data set from Wikimedia/Commons where I'm also active. This evening I uploaded quite some images before noticing your message on my talk page. Therefore I did use the same procedure as with my first image, only now I pasted the data set of my first image after your clean-up. So this should have produced the same result as the procedure you recommended. But to be sure, I would be glad if you could look over the image descriptions of my up-loads of today. As of yet only Image:ReetdachHaeuser KampenerHeide.jpg doesn't have a category, because there is none for Sylt island in Germany. What's not so clear is the use of or the difference between caption and description in the image summary. Also, are any User-related category permitted on Wikitravel/Shared? (For example to categorize all pictures uploaded by a user.) Greetings -- Túrelio 17:15, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for your thorough answers! how fluent are you in German? Now that question was quite some fun this morning. O.k., as there are no babels here in WT (at least I didn't find any), you couldn't really know. In fact, German is my mother tongue. ;-) Have a nice day. -- Túrelio 03:45, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Now I've found the WT-babels and added them to my pages. BTW, do you know how to add on a Wikitravel user-page an interwiki-link to Wikitravel-shared, like those to other language-versions? -- Túrelio 04:33, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Liking to Shared is possible, but not in the same way as linking to de: or en:. If you type shared:User:Sapphire, unlike linking into en it will show up on the page, rather than the on the side bar. I'm not sure, why it happens, so I just stopped trying. :) -- Sapphire(Talk) • 08:22, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Sorry to bother with another question: the usage function (or in German: Dateiverweise) on the image pages in WT/Shared seems not to work. For example, even for the Image:StockholmStadshuset.jpg that I uploaded 2 days ago and placed on pages in en- and de-WT plus on my user page in en-WT (so actually used on at least 3 WT-pages) "no usage"[1] is shown. Any idea? -- Túrelio 17:05, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, we're not as technologically advanced as Commons. The easiest way to tell if an image is used and where is by changing the url. As an example, http://wikitravel.org/shared/Image:WashingtonDC_Obelisk.jpg. Change the "shared" to "de" (http://wikitravel.org/de/Image:WashingtonDC_Obelisk.jpg) then you'll be able to tell. There had been some discussion about using the feature that Commons incorporates, but I'm not sure anyone is sure what they did to get that feature. Do you have any idea? -- Sapphire(Talk) • 17:17, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Do you have any idea? No, I'm no software wizard. Though I'm quite often on Commons, I barely know the few commands one needs to format a page/an article in the wiki-world and that's all, sorry. Of course, as the people overthere are quite friendly also, I could ask on the Commons village pump, but I fear in order to ask such a question you already need to know quite a lot. -- Túrelio 17:51, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Hi Andrew,

I’ve the impression that not all Wikitravel language versions do correctly link back to the file description pages on Wikitravel/Shared for images taken from there. For example, take my image of the Washington Monument (Image:WashingtonDC Obelisk.jpg) in the article on Washington DC. Contrary to all other language versions in the Esperanto version the local image description page does not lead the user back to the original image description page. I couldn’t check this on other pages in :eo because there are so few articles and near to none carry images. BTW, is there any public page on WT/Shared to ask such questions? -- Túrelio 04:54, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

Let's see the place to report bugs is on Technical requests. Evan is an admin on eo: So I'll ask him to update it and fix it. General comments or questions can be posted on Wikitravel Shared:Travellers' pub. -- Sapphire(Talk) • 23:08, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

Copyright Images from User:Sterner

Hi Andrew, in case you've recovered from yesterday's vandalism reverting orgy, could you or another experienced user do a little bit of Wikitravel explaining to this new user Special:Contributions/Sterner, as this seems to be quite necessary (Nepal). -- Túrelio 04:32, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Hi, I already tried to contact him on de:Benutzer_Diskussion:Sterner, but no reponse so far. --Flip666 writeme! • 05:46, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

VFD

Hey there brother! When you get a sec can you sweep out the VFD page, I was about to do it then realized I'm not an admin over here! especially the first one with all of the suspected copyvio images by Leedslads... – cacahuate talk 02:04, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

Sure. Hit Evan up for admin status. Also did you vfd the Leedslads images? If not, could I ask you to vote? -- Sapphire(Talk) • 03:09, 26 March 2007 (EDT)
Done and done – cacahuate talk 22:25, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

@Cacahuate. Congrats on becoming admin. Upamanyu -- Write2me 04:35, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

hi

Hey, I think you're online, so could you tell me which MediaWiki file I need to edit on hi so that the bar above (left of discussion/edit...) which says "article" can be translated? Upamanyu -- Write2me 04:35, 29 April 2007 (EDT)
