When some files with non-English characters in their file names (like for instance ö, ä, ç ) are uploaded to wt shared all that is visible is an error message. The same error message shows up when I later try to embed the picture into an article. It seems, however, that the image has been successfully uploaded because the picture does show up when clicking "Full resolution". Studying the error message, it seems like the character has been ignored by the wiki-software (Nsinneula).
When it happens
I just tried to upload a picture named Image:Näsinneula_winter.jpg and it wouldn't show up. When I then changed the file name so that it didn't include the ä-character any more the image showed up as it was supposed to. I remember I had the same problem with this file, and the same solution worked then (changing é, è and ç). However, I remember there were problems with all kinds of images back then, caused by some major software upgrade and it was fixed in a couple of days. However, this problem with the non-English characters in file names seems to persist. Besides, the same thing happens with some images uploaded earlier (I'm sure that one worked properly, as that was one of the first files I ever uploaded). However many images including ö etc. do work normally.
What should happen
Obviously, the images/files should show up instead of the error code.
How to fix it
The wiki-software seems to change the names of the files and after that try to tell that the file isn't there. It seems like it doesn't concern files with only standard English characters in their file names. So if the wiki-software wouldn't change the names by removing the characters most likely there wouldn't be any problem.
What's the current status on this ticket? It is probably the same problem which has been reported in Tech:Image thumbnail not shown if filename contains special characters, Tech:Diacritics and Tech:Geo code not showing. Riggwelter 12:31, 22 June 2012 (EDT)
