This page describes the criteria for determining the article status of travel topic articles.

Status Name Description
0 Vfd Not an article, with a page name that has little or no prospect of being turned into an article or being redirected to an article. While it may contain information, that information does not meet Wikitravel's goals.
1 Stub An article with no information in it, or not formatted even close to the manual of style. An article with no template or outline headers would have this status.
2 Outline Has at least an introduction (this can be as short as a single sentence explaining what the topic is) and an outline of headers laid out for the article, similar to standard Wikitravel destination templates. Some of the sections of the outline may have content, but not all of them.
3 Usable Has at least a good overview of the topic, and some useful material under each outline heading.
4 Guide Effectively covers most aspects of the topic with no obvious omissions. If practical, it should contain a listing of relevant destinations. The format should closely match the manual of style.
5 Star Covers the topic fully. Layout and listings either match the manual of style exactly or are the exception that proves the rule. Prose is not only near-perfect grammatically but also tight, effective, and enjoyable. At least one good-quality photo or illustration accompanies the article. If practical (such as for a niche activity), it has a map identifying relevant destinations.

Insert the Wiki Markup listed below in order to display a Wikitravel Topic's maturity status:

This page has been nominated for deletion. After taking a look at the deletion policy, please weigh in with your opinion at Wikitravel:Votes for deletion. Please do not remove this notice as it must remain on the article until the nomination discussion is complete. If you are the author of this article, this nomination is not a critique of your work, but is instead a notice that the article title or subject may not meet Wikitravel's criteria, or that the content might belong in another Wikitravel article.
{{stub}}
This article is still a stub and needs your attention. It does not have a template. Please plunge forward and help it grow!

{{outlinetopic}}
This travel topic is an outline and should either be merged into an appropriate parent topic or else developed further. It has a template, but there is not enough information present for it to be of real use. It was last edited on 2011-10-19 and will be merged or deleted if not modified for one year. Please plunge forward and rescue it!

{{usabletopic}}
This is a usable article. It touches on all the major areas of the topic. An adventurous person could use this article, but please plunge forward and help it grow!

{{guidetopic}}
This is a guide article. It has good, detailed information covering the entire topic. Plunge forward and help us make it a star!

{{startopic}}
Star-icon.png This is a star article. It covers the topic completely with great information and visuals. If you know of something that has changed or have new information to add, please plunge forward and keep it fresh!
