Wikitravel:25 November 2004
Seem to be back online
What a long strange few days it's been! I won't go into the whole saga now; suffice it to say that Wikitravel has been off the air since Monday, November 22, and that we appear to be back up again. We've had to move to a new hosting service, with a lot more capacity to deal with a rapidly growing site like Wikitravel, and with what appears to be some better response time. The DNS is propagating as we speak, so we'll change the IP-address name back to good ol' wikitravel.org within the next 12 hours or so.
Maj and I have done some smoke testing on the new hosts, and things appear to be solid, but you never know. If you see any problems or weirdness, please report them in Wikitravel:bug reports. The caching system is still in place -- I don't think I can take another week like this any time soon.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who's been so great this week. It's been a real trial -- I had no idea on Monday morning how hard it was going to be. All the email, the drop-ins in the IRC channel, people's really generous offers of server space, time and so forth: they kept us going. Wikitravellers are the best. --Evan 19:49, 25 Nov 2004 (EST)
P.S. It'd be really nice if go-betweens could propagate this info out to the other language versions.
