Watauga County  is in the North Carolina Mountains region of North Carolina. Boone is the largest town in Watauga County, it is also the county seat. Watauga is located along along the Tennessee border.
In 1849 this county was formed from parts of 4 others, it was named for the Watauga River.
The local sights can be amazing.
Watauga is a popular destination, especially for in-state tourists. It is part of the Appalachian Mountains, a very nice area for a vacation.
