Texugo - hi there.

I made the events additions - I am cool with your edit, but just let me explain my thinking.

1. I know that the Vorst site was not English, but it does mention in the rules that the links don't have to be always in English - of course anyone can figure out the bands on offer without knowing French or Flemish. Anyhow - I am sure you know the rules better than I.

2. The lastfm site - I know its not Brussels specific - but it is very useful for cataloging the lots and lots of small gigs which might be of interest to visitors.

Your other comment about slicing the section - well I do think that its useful for visitors to be able to see whats on in a city - and thats not always very easy to find in Brussels (IMHO) the official visitors site is just plain awful - I have been living here for ten years.

Anyway - I concede to your greater knowledge - but just to explain.

Regards Mark

I saw the comment you made about the Navajo Nation article on the Four Corners deletion conversation, so I've written up a proposal you might be interested in. PerryPlanet Talk 21:12, 3 February 2009 (EST)

Hi there. Sorry, but I am mostly a beach man, and have little, if any, to contribute with when it comes to Minas. Good luck!!

Talk archive

Hey Brian, did something go awry in your talk page archiving? [1]

Yep. Every time I try to copy it and paste it in the target page, Wikitravel says "f*** you" and it doesn't work, and my attempt doesn't even show in recent changes. Do you have any idea how to fix that? Texugo 15:48, 6 February 2009 (EST)
Yeah, I have no idea why that was happening, but it was for me too. To get around it, I moved your talk page to the target, copy-pasted the content back here, then reverted the target page to the pre-archive version. Unfortunately that nuked the page history for your current talk page, but it got the job done. Weird problem. --Peter Talk 16:42, 6 February 2009 (EST)

Dindigul page

I uploaded the .svg and .png map in the wikitravel shared page. The name is " drawing-with-usilampatti-batlagundu-smallhighway.png " But the map is not displayed in the wikitravel page. Please advise how the map can be displayed. Kbala1055 09:59, 15 February 2009 (EST)

Image tags are case-sensitive. Correcting it to the exact image name fixed it. Do you think you could crop the bottom of the map a little better? Lots of blank space there. Texugo 00:01, 22 February 2009 (EST)

Dindigul page

But still I am unable to see the map in the wikitravel page.. I uploaded a new version in wikitravel shared with the proper tags as specified in the template. Can you please help? I wil ltry to crop the space after the first version is viewed in the wikitravel page Kbala1055 00:12, 22 February 2009 (EST)

Hi Texugo

It is appearing now.. Thanks a million.. Got the catch.. with case sensitive extensions. I will now work on cropping the space in the bottom. Will also work on a dindigul city map shortly Kbala1055

I did see that giant sign but as with anything to do with computers, especially Wikitravel, I have a hard time mastering it. I am a student completing an assignment and it was a mistake I do not know how to reverse. —The preceding comment was added by IFeelLikeAnActor (talkcontribs) .

Sorry for reverting you, but unless people feel strongly to the contrary can we just leave the current EE user page as-is? Policy is that people can do pretty much whatever they like with their user pages, and it would be nice not to provoke him further by having him return daily to un-blank it. There are a number of user pages that are disparaging against others and we've let them be (User:Jo is the first that comes to mind) and if in this case it gives him some closure to feel like he fired the final salvo I think it's best to let him have his say and be done with it. -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:02, 12 March 2009 (EDT)

Probably not the right place for this discussion, but I tend to feel that personal threats (the "bodyguard" bit) do cross a line, even in User: space. - Dguillaime 00:09, 13 March 2009 (EDT)
I doubt it was an actual threat, even if it could come off that way. At worst, though, it merits excising that sentence, not reverting the whole post. LtPowers 08:48, 13 March 2009 (EDT)

Speedy documentation

It was my understanding that speedy deletes don't require anything on the vfd page. Am I wrong? --Peter Talk 02:00, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Hmm.. Looking again at the deletion policy, I suppose you may be right. Don't know where I came up with that habit. Texugo 02:13, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
I was under the same impression. Odd. LtPowers 09:10, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Qingdao - eat section

I noticed your 'Style' stamp on the Qingdao eat section. Obviously, the section is work in progress and needs further contents. But please advice: what makes the section non-compliant with out manual of style? --ClausHansen 11:42, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

dindigul page

I have added an external reference to a daily newspaper website called The Hindu in India in the section called "Peranai" in this page.

Is it ok? Pls let me know Kbala1055 07:09, 12 April 2009 (EDT)

I removed that and several other links-- we don't use multiple links to Wikipedia like that. There is already a link to the Wikipedia Dindigul article in the left toolbar. I also removed a link to an external guide about Dindigul which is against policy. Texugo 03:09, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

That's Wikitravel Press markup. It doesn't have any effect on the way the guide displays here on Wikitravel — it just tells the WTP print engine to leave that part out. Gorilla Jones 08:07, 29 April 2009 (EDT)

Districting Southcentral Alaska

Hi Texugo - This is the first contribution I've ever made to a Wiki and don't know much about it. I just spent 6 hours on figuring out what I should and shouldn't do and writing the material. I believe I had all the formatting right and as far as changing the system--there wasn't really much of a change. The Kenai Peninsula IS a Borough.

But would appreciate any help you can give me on this, so I can do it correctly. Thanks.

Carol - AlaskanAtHeart 11:30, 20 August 2009 (EDT)

Hi - Thanks for your quick answer.

Actually, all of Alaska has been divided into boroughs politically for quite a few years. I can add a complete list of all the boroughs that will cover the whole state. And factually, I can't think of any other breakdown of the State by region, because there really isn't any. The boroughs actually do identify areas as well as any system that could be devised. For instance, there is a North Slope Borough--that effectively covers an area that has a unity to it. Also, there are a number of cities, such as Anchorage, that are also Boroughs. The Municipality of Anchorage is actually a much larger area than the city itself and was originally called the Greater Anchorage Area Borough. It is still a Borough even though the name has changed, so it needs to be listed as a Borough as well as a City.

If anyone else comes up with a better system, I'll be happy to go with it if it seems reasonable. But the borough is the only type of subdivision I can think of that would effectively divide the Regions that have already been set up.

And just a note on Southcentral Alaska - it is much more than just Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula. It most definitely includes the Mat-Su Borough.

I'll await to hear any future comments on this system.

Thanks, AlaskanAtHeart 12:05, 20 August 2009 (EDT)

As far as I can tell, the regions probably do, but it's impossible to tell with that map. It is much too small and there aren't many landmarks, like towns or rivers. And each borough is quite large - the Mat-Su Borough alone has over 25,000 sq miles of territory.

I would assume that whoever divided it into regions, would have used a system that followed the borders of the existing boroughs, otherwise the division lines wouldn't make any sense. There really is not much out there in remote Alaska, so there are not a whole lot of factors to consider. There are Native villages, a few other settlements and leftovers from early Alaskan years. And the Boroughs were set up with a cultural factor in mind for the Alaskan Native groups, as well as the few developed areas like Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau.

Can I ask why you removed this from Awaji? Jpatokal 03:58, 22 August 2009 (EDT)

I thought it didn't really follow from the previous sentence unless you happen to know that "awa" means "foam" and infer that the name of the former prefecture may be in reference to the afore-mentioned whirlpools. I wouldn't mind putting that info about the former prefecture in there though, just didn't make sense to me to put it right there. Texugo 04:39, 22 August 2009 (EDT)

Trobriand Islands

Why do we need sub-headings when there is no information? Apart from anything else there is now a Table of Non-Contents rather than contents. Is this Wikitravel policy to have all these headings?

In the Trobriands you eat and drink where you stay, so not much point in duplicate listings.Shep 15:02, 29 August 2009 (EDT)

In a regional article such as this, those sections are for general descriptions. In the Eat section (a mandatory section), what are the local specialties? prices? Are all the local restaurants in hotels? Are there snack vendors on the beaches, etc. Are there local fruits to try? For the See section (also mandatory), what are the sights to see? any rock formations? temples? something else? In the Do section (not mandatory if there is nothing to do there), surely there are at least some scuba/snorkeling/swimming type options? The Drink section is not mandatory either, but if there are any special beverages popular there they should go here, or just describe generally where to get a drink (bars? beach kiosks?).Texugo 00:45, 30 August 2009 (EDT)

Caernarfon Entry

Ahhh... I didn't realise there's a certain formatting for headings.

I've changed them back to what they should be. :)

Country "See", Country "Do"

I had originally added the "See" and "Do" section to Iran, but deleted it after noticing that it was not on the articles for Japan, South Korea, or Ghana. Is it really supposed to be on the country page, or did I just happen to choose every wrong page as my reference points? ChubbyWimbus 22:31, 1 September 2009 (EDT)

Hmm.. Perhaps I was a little hasty-- Upon checking a few other countries, I see that several others have no See section, no Do section or neither one, while some others have both. Wikitravel:Article templates states that the See section is "obligatory for every article", but actually it is not currently part of the template itself. There is also an unfinished discussion which seems to mostly support adding them back in. I think we should renew the discussion there. Texugo 22:51, 1 September 2009 (EDT)

duplicate photo

Hi Texugo

For my new page on Bomarzo I uploaded on Shared a photo I called Elephant.jpg. When I loaded it onto the page I got a photo with the same name of a wall at Angkor. Should not the programme not accept duplicate file names? How do I delete my file?

Thanks Shep 16:39, 6 September 2009 (EDT)

Lake Bolsena vfd

You have added a vfd to this page but I can't find any explanation as to why. Before I start to argue on the vfd page please let me know why. It is an interesting area but the cities themselves do not really rate individual entries. I did the same for Lake Bracciano. The idea came from the fact that there is an (incomplete) page on Lake Trasimeno which was there long before I got involved with Wikipedia, so I was just following precedent.Shep 01:53, 27 September 2009 (EDT)

Bali map

Thanks for the kind words. The simple regional map of Bali which I prepared was a bit of unsophisticated bodge job I am afraid. I took a public domain outline of the island and then labelled and coloured it in Photoshop to match the regional table template. I have been looking at the standard Wikitravel map project and will definitely get to grips with it at some stage. Peter has also indicated he would like to prepare a Wikitravel style map for Bali, here. If one of you could, then the article would be improved enormously. The Bali project is getting there. Been a bit of slog but the six regional and 29 destination articles are now all in pretty good shape. Still some style clean up of old articles to do, but I am really happy with the progress so far.--Burmesedays 05:06, 27 September 2009 (EDT)

United States

Hi, Texugo. What problem are you trying to fix? LtPowers 16:18, 18 October 2009 (EDT)

I was trying to fix the page worth of white space directly under the map caused by the fact that the Mid-Atlantic region started just before the map ended, and so kept its narrow column width even though there was nothing beside it. Texugo 22:59, 18 October 2009 (EDT)
Unfortunately, the nature of HTML makes it impossible to predict where anything like that is going to end up. It all depends on your browser width, font size, and other details. For example, for me, the map goes all the way down to the Midwest section. I don't think we can afford to put in extra line breaks for everyone who has a layout problem. LtPowers 11:03, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
No problem, feel free to pull it. I was just messing around with it mostly. I still wish we could get things to auto-wrap properly. Texugo 20:15, 19 October 2009 (EDT)

maybe you could answer this for me what does "pcv" stand for in deletion of a outlined travel guide? i also asked peterfitzgerald but he hasnt replied of yet so i thought i would ask someone who was online and was a admin. thank you. 21:44, 19 October 2009 (EDT)

I actually don't know it either, but ask yourself this question? can you sleep there (i.e. in a hotel)? if yes, and can you fill out at least one entry in every category? if that's a jup too, create it under this name instead Pittsfield (Maine) and that should be fine. --Stefan (sertmann) Talk 21:53, 19 October 2009 (EDT)

New Conversation

Hi Texugo. Thanks very much for helping. I am sorry that my style was a little out of the standard. I am just trying to do my best in view of a big international event that will take place in Pedro Gonzalez. It is important that we provide full information to the guests (including how to change currency and where on the web to check the current rate), i would say vitally important. Sometimes i put some stubs that we will fill with information together with my friends who are now there. Please have a little patience with us. Thanks Moonwalker

Texugo we need to provide people with information how to change money including the link

please comment. I will hold all the edits for the moment.

Currency link

But is not a blog! Why are you deleting it?

Because any information relevant to the whole country should go in the country article and not be duplicated in every region and city article. By the way, if you look at the history, you can see any explanatory notes i've left for my edits. Texugo 23:05, 19 October 2009 (EDT)

delete Pedro Gonzalez

Texugo, I am very sorry I spent your time. I moved the page to free wiki because this will be more appropriate. This way we can organize the event. By best regards Alexey

My friend you become stubborn like a Japanese and believe me it does not make sense I am deleting because there are NO TOURISTS but us in this zone. Moonwalker

incorrect info in Pefro Gonzalez

all price info there is incorrect since I was planning to correct later Please delete the page Moonwalker

I'm not going to delete the page because it's a real place, but... which price info? the taxis? the lodging? what? Texugo 23:00, 20 October 2009 (EDT)
