Hello! Welcome to Wikitravel. If you want to specialize your experience you may want to consider editing your preferences. Please take a second to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you're new to the whole wiki community look at the Wiki markup to get an idea of how to use the wiki markup. If you need help, check out Wikitravel:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.--Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 22:35, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Great work on Hamamatsu, keep it up! Jpatokal 00:01, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

I just wanted to point out our image policy to you and I'd really appreciate it if you would upload your images to Wikitravel Shared so that your images can be used by all language versions of Wikitravel. Please keep in mind that you must provide information about the license of the image you are uploading and that you must be the owner and author of the image. Here is a copy of the default license. Thanks. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:29, 30 July 2006 (EDT)

  • Obviously I'm new here. I'll get on that soon! Don't worry though, they are all my own photos.
Great. Are they released under CC-by-SA 1.0? If you say yes that will cover everything I brought up and I'll move your images to the appropriate version. By the way, to sign your signature all you have to do is type ~~~~ and your signature will appear automagically like this: -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:43, 30 July 2006 (EDT)
  • Yes, I'll use the default license for all the pictures so far. Thanks so much for your help! Texugo 22:33, 30 July 2006 (EDT)
Is there some special reason for moving some pictures from the left to the right in the segment on Vaasa? I was about to add more and making the layout such that it suits the whole page, when my just added picture got moved by you. Christian B 02:07, 1 August 2007 (EDT)
  • How can someone remove an image they personally have added? I uploaded the wrong image for something.

Brazil - Thanks

Thank you for your contributions to Brazilian destinations! Ricardo (Rmx) 22:17, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

  • I wish I was there exploring new ones now! Quem me dera....

Do you know Nicole and Andrea too? -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:08, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, baby! They's in me harem! Texugo 00:10, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

I tinkered with the isIn on es and it should work now. I've tested it on es:Flordia and it worked perfectly fine. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 03:11, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

Great. Thanks so much! Texugo 05:45, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

The isin for the Romanian version is ready to go, but is there a localized name for IsIn in Romanian too? -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:25, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

Des Moines (I assume)

Did you erase listings for the High Life Lounge and El Bait Shop? If so, why?

If so, it was an accident-- Please copy and paste them from an earlier edit. Texugo 02:05, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
Actually, if it IS in fact Des Moines you are talking about, those two listing were not present in your last edit of the page, so maybe you did it yourself by accident? Texugo 02:10, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

Why no italics for a newspaper? Also, any tips (aka instructions) for getting photos from Websites for the site? Unizeppelin 00:10, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

The uses for italics sanctioned by the Manual of Style are for 1)the part of telephone numbers that is unnecessary when dialed locally, 2) foreign words, and 3) to give emphasis to a word for someone who is reading the text closely rather than skimming. Newspaper listings on dozens of other pages are already out there with no italics, so there is no reason to start here... As for photos, I don't really know-- the ones I've put up so far have all been my own. Texugo 00:55, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

I don't want to see a Yellow Book listings either but I think anyone who's visiting Iowa from another country would enjoy seeing an ethnic storie available to them if they want to do some cooking. I live overseas and would love it if I saw a listing where I could pick up some American-style groceries. Also, why did you delete Dahls, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Wal-Mart and Target? Two of them (Dahls and Fareway) are unique to Iowa (one in fact just to Des Moines). These are where even most of the locals shop...these places also offer a variety of services (eg, film processing, Ticketmaster) that would be great for an out-of-towner to know about. I would seriously think about re-inserting these places...after all, all I pretty much did was list how many locations were in the area and the Website...Unizeppelin 01:46, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

As for the long list of ethnic grocery stores, maybe try to pick the best one of each ethnicity? I think the section is dis-proportionately large compared to the percentage of travelers likely to be cooking for themselves in the middle of Iowa. As for the ones I deleted, I removed them because they are big chains, normal places just like every other city on the US map has, most of which also have pharmacies, photo processing, etc. If Dahls and Fareway are unique to Iowa, put them in the Iowa article. Wal-mart and Target are pretty ubiquitous in the States, so if anywhere, I'd put them in the United States article. I definitely don't want to see a Wal-Mart listing in every article for every American city over 10,000 people, do you? For the same reason, I remove McDonald's other mega-fast-food chains when I find listings in city articles. Texugo 04:20, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Greetings from USA/Italy

Welcome and WOW !! Can see you are a real master of languages. I am an Italian-American citizen and have been working with a kind gentleman, Lucio DeMarcellis, to familiarize people with our hometown of Teramo in the Abruzzo Region. We could use some assistance translating our pages from English or Italian into Japanese and Portuguese. Any assistance you could provide would be most helpful. You might even win a private guided tour of our beautiful (but relatively unknown) city! Ulissi

Thanks for your help there -- I wasn't quite keeping up alone. And my DSL keeps dying. Thanks! -- Colin 00:48, 11 September 2006 (EDT)

I hereby declare you a Wikitravel Hero! That's the highest honor, I think! Thanks a bunch! -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:49, 11 September 2006 (EDT)

Admin nomination

I went ahead and beat Evan to the punch by nominating you for admin status on ES. The email I sent you a couple days ago was about that. I hadn't realized you already became an admin on PT. By the way, the email I sent to you was the email address noted on your blog. -- Sapphire 00:19, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

I'm embarrassed that you had to solicit my support. You've done a great job working on Wikitravel. --Evan 11:50, 26 September 2006 (EDT)
No worries! Thanks for your support! Texugo 02:09, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Nara restaurants

You completely reverted the experience I had in this Nara restaurant, just based on an "assumption" that this is not possible, although I explicitly state that this is my experience. I do not know about Hamamatsu, but here in Tokyo love restaurants are a new gadget for couples who seek the thrill of having "sanctioned" sex in public. It is this kind of unreflected editing that made me drop out of Wikipedia long ago.

  • I'm sorry for the revert, but I was just thinking, you know, Nara is NOT Tokyo. Much more rural place. The description of the restaurant that was there before was fairly positive and normal. Did you actually see people having sex in the restaurant? If the place is actually as bad as you made it sound, then our policy is not to list it at all-- we don't list negative reviews-- so it was either revert what you added, or delete the listing altogether, and I opted for the former, given that I only had the word of an un-registered user IP address (you) against what was there before. Perhaps you could just delete the listing and give a more detailed account of why you did so in a note on Nara's talk page? Texugo 01:45, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

Admin nomination Part II

I've nominated you to become an admin on en:. Would you stop by Wikitravel:Administrator nominations and tell us if you're willing to accept the mission? Thanks. -- Sapphire(Talk) • 11:29, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

New search engine

When you get a chance, could you check out the new search engine on review ( and give your feedback on shared:Tech:Lucene search? It's the search tool that Wikipedia uses, and I think it's going to be a good upgrade for us. I'd especially like to make sure that it will support our other language versions well. --Evan 12:37, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

Krabi link deletion

Just curious - why did you remove the link [1] ? ~ 03:38, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

That's a good question! Perhaps I had too many windows open in Firefox and reverted the wrong thing. Sorry! I'll put it back. Texugo 03:56, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

Are you knowledgeable enough to reduce that list of cities down to 9 or so? Texugo 04:22, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

Hamamatsu airport bus still there, and precisely in the place it should be: "By plane", not in its own bizarro section. Jpatokal 04:45, 27 June 2007 (EDT)

Many thanks for editing my new input about Pinswang, Austria. It is my first contribution to Wikitravel and I very much appreciate your making it very attractive for our readers. Best regards and thankyou for this great service! - Naz Ausgraben

San Francisco/Parking Meter 568 47610

I've restored the content on the infamous San Francisco parking meter article for now - the page is up for VFD, and in the past people have asked that VFD content not be removed so that it's clear what is being nominated for deletion. As always, discussion on Wikitravel talk:Votes for deletion is welcome if you feel strongly that the page should be blanked, although hopefully we can allow this famous meter to live out its final days without too much controversy :) -- Ryan • (talk) • 00:17, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

That's fine. I don't feel strongly about it-- I had just blanked it when I moved that text to the actual article so it wouldn't exist in two places, as one normally does when moving text. I figured the title alone leaves pretty clear why it should be deleted. Texugo 02:45, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

Hello. I have left you a message there, on pt version. Reminding just in case. It's OK if you didn't decide to answer. Greetings. LukeWestwalker 01:50, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Another glance? LukeWestwalker 17:33, 7 October 2007 (EDT) Pleeeeeeeeeeeeez.... LukeWestwalker 02:51, 19 October 2007 (EDT)

Ton of HTML

If so, then how about that: Warsaw/Srodmiescie#Get_in, Warsaw#Buses? LukeWestwalker 09:14, 21 October 2007 (EDT)

Yep, those had better go too. I'll take care of that.Texugo 21:59, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
Well, I put it forward as those busnumberssigns look nice and harmless to me, also quite smart in print. Do you plan to remove them for estethic reasons only? LukeWestwalker 14:05, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
I thought they looked alright too, but I eliminated them because Wikitravel has a policy about avoiding HTML. Texugo 22:55, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
Right. That's what I needed to be directed to. LukeWestwalker 11:07, 27 October 2007 (EDT)

Hello. What were your issues with the official city and prefectural links you deleted? I thought official links were OK.

Cedar Point

I am curious why you marked cedar point for VFD. It was up for VFD before and voted to keep. I saw no mention on the VFD page, so I removed tag. Please comment. 2old 09:00, 29 November 2007 (EST)

I didn't realize it had been discussed before. I put a mention of it on the VFD page along with Six Flags Magic Mountain, but someone came along and removed the last few entries in the list for some reason. Texugo 22:16, 29 November 2007 (EST)

I'm new and tried to contribute - the additions were deleted very quickly. Please let me know why

Hi Texugo I'm new and I believe that I did something wrong with my additions. It said something about copy violation... not 100% sure. Whatever I posted wouldn't violate any copyrights. Is there a reason why my honest posts got deleted and if so where can I find the reason why. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Thanks. leomax

Hi there. The portions of your contribution that I deleted were copied verbatim from, which appears to be a violation of copyright. That website's policy states, "Any unauthorized reproduction, publication, or further distribution for public exhibition of any data on the website which is owned by BPACK or any other person, in whole or in part, is strictly prohibited." If you have somehow obtained authorization from them, you must provide an explanation of the details on the discussion page before adding any such content. Texugo 23:34, 30 November 2007 (EST)

removal of Cafes from Barcelona

Apologies & thanks

Sorry for the VFD mess [2], thanks for catching that - I did spot the "-2,810" on the recent changes page just after, but by then you'd already fixed it. ~ 02:07, 18 December 2007 (EST)

No problem! I assumed it was an accident since the nomination was legitimate.Texugo 02:10, 18 December 2007 (EST)
