Climate data

Hi, Peter... I noticed you reverted a change to the D.C. climate data... the same IP user changed NYC, WDW, and NOLA as well; should they be reverted as well? LtPowers 22:28, 10 January 2012 (EST)

Yes, unless they can explain where they are getting their figures, and why we should use them over the NOAA figures. --Peter Talk 22:01, 11 January 2012 (EST)
I didn't see this discussion and actually reverted the anonymous user's changes earlier after leaving a note on User talk:67.169.134.89. -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:20, 11 January 2012 (EST)

RE: Maryland articles

Hey Peter, thank you for the compliments! I've been pretty busy lately but it would be awesome to help out getting an article up to Destination of the Month status, so I'll see what I can do. :) travelguy101 19:52, 6 February 2012 (EST)

SQL dump access for Evopedia 2012 edition

Peter, I am working with the Evopedia project http://evopedia.info/ to process the yearly wikipedia dumps. If you could provide us with a recent SQL database dump for each language you choose to share we could include wikitravel in our available databases useful to travelers relying on their mobile device as an offline Hitchikers Guide to World. This would of course also be good exposure for Internet Brands. thanks David you can reach me at dj hat personaltelco.net

Very unfortunately, there is no SQL dump available, and our hosting company has refused to provide one (or even discuss it). I will contact you if/when one becomes available. --Peter Talk 10:46, 12 February 2012 (EST)

Bywater Photo

The art you reference is making fun of the Blue Dog art by George Rodrigue. It's a run over Blue Dog meant to poke fun at this artist who made a lot of money selling his Blue Dog folk art. This particular graffiti artist has posted the run over image of the blue dog in many locations. It has nothing to do with being a cat neighborhood. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.164.83.118 (talkcontribs)

Cool—I definitely didn't know what it was about. But my caption was fully tongue in cheek! --Peter Talk 17:58, 10 March 2012 (EST)

Help with a districts map

Hi Peter. Nice work on cleaning up Wikitravel:How to draw a map. I thought I'd have a go at districtifying Dhaka, after you'd updated the instructions. I did manage fairly well to transform the OSM map to our standards. But it's still a little messy, mostly because the OSM mapping of Dhaka was quite disorganised. I'm having some issues applying the coloured district shading over the top of the map; I can't get a good level of precision and it always looks wonky or overlapped. Did you want to have a go if you get a chance? I've got another PNG which is a rough outline of where the district borders should be. Let me know if you've got time, and I can post the SVG-in-progress. If not, no problems at all. Thanks, JamesA >talk 08:13, 24 May 2012 (EDT)

Thanks Peter, and no problem about the delay. I'll upload the files somewhere when you're ready. I continually saved the map as I progressed, but will give you the most recent one to work with. JamesA >talk 02:31, 3 June 2012 (EDT)

Edit window resizing

Short edit window

Has anyone else had their edit window become tiny lately? --Peter Talk 18:41, 21 October 2011 (EDT)

It's the same issue as #Preferences Reseting?. Go to User Preferences → Editing and make sure that your "Rows" and "Columns" are something like "25" and "80", respectively. Has happened to me twice in the past three days. -- Ryan • (talk) • 18:58, 21 October 2011 (EDT)
But then it will go back to normal without my going into my preferences. Strange. -Peter Talk 19:23, 21 October 2011 (EDT)
Only happens sometimes for me, too... I'm trying to detect a pattern. LtPowers 21:39, 21 October 2011 (EDT)
It has happened many times lately with me. When that happens, the changes list at Recent changes also becomes completely empty. Not sure what it is, but seems like a connection problem? --globe-trotter 04:59, 22 October 2011 (EDT)
This was reported to tech last week. All of this is a result of random preferences resetting -- you can work around it by manually selecting Edit Preferences in your profile. It has been affecting me for the last 2 weeks as well.--IBobi 21:00, 24 October 2011 (EDT)
I still have this problem. Also, the preview function does not work. The Dutch Wikitravel works fine, so I hope this issue could be fixed shortly. --Globe-trotter 00:34, 14 November 2011 (EST)

Only new tabs load?

Another bizarre problem: often trying to open a link will result in a never-ending page load (no content accessed). I also have this problem when hitting go on special:recentchanges. But if I open the link in a new window/tab, then it loads promptly. Firefox. And no idea what's going on. Anyone else? --Peter Talk 18:47, 21 October 2011 (EDT)

Man, this site works way better in Accra then in D.C. ... --Peter Talk 02:22, 29 November 2011 (EST)

Myer Centre

You know that I was gassed there three times, right?

Didn't realize you were on Wikitravel in those days - thanks for the trip down memory lane :) -- Ryan • (talk) • 00:11, 12 June 2012 (EDT)

I wasn't on wikiatravel, i also got gassed. --14:09, 12 June 2012 (EDT)~

Vandalism on fr:

It looks like you're an admin on French Wikitravel - would you mind cleaning up after fr:Spécial:Contributions/217.209.82.165? He's hit several language versions with mostly harmless vandalism (and has been blocked on several language versions), but it would be nice to have clean content. Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 23:34, 8 July 2012 (EDT)

This should be something I should be able to do in a couple minutes at most, but it's taking forever to load the damn delete pages. I get this often when I send a lot of rapid requests to Wikitravel (usually opening background tabs from recent changes). Is that a deliberate thing on IB's part? --Peter Talk 02:28, 9 July 2012 (EDT)
And another joker added a spam link to every country page on the site. I should be able to undo that with one click, but instead, I have to click all 130 or so rollback links, and w a a a i i i i t t for them to load
Thanks! We've got a handful of language versions that have been greatly neglected - fi is another, and I don't think it has an active admin. As to performance, I think User:IBobi said some new caching thing was being put in place today that may or may not help. -- Ryan • (talk) • 11:22, 9 July 2012 (EDT)

Yep -- cacheing change is in effect. I put a note in the Shared Pub. Site speed should slowly build back up to and then exceed last week's performance, and most upgrade bugs should already be resolved.--IBobi 18:49, 9 July 2012 (EDT)

Every time I think we should just shut down editing, I see that we have contributions ongoing like this one [1] — huge amounts of original content! --Peter Talk 14:25, 9 July 2012 (EDT)
One additional request - can you delete fr:Fichier:Morocco Trips, Marrakech Tours, Fes Trips, Morocco Camel ride, Camel Trekking Morocco, Marrakech Camel Treks, Marrakech to Fes desert tours, Fes to Marrakech desert tours, tailor made Tours Morocco, 3 days, 4days, 5, days Tours a.JPG? It's an ad (ya think?), and the long filename is problematic. Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 13:45, 11 July 2012 (EDT)
What a cool photo, though—almost a shame to delete it. But... I don't have time for this, so it's gone ;) --Peter Talk 17:31, 11 July 2012 (EDT)
Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 18:03, 11 July 2012 (EDT)

Russia stuff

Nice work with the formalising of Russia stuff. My Russian is pretty poor, but I wrote most of the RFE articles originally, plus the Kolyma Highway article. I would be happy to help out with whatever else my expertise can stretch to, though if you're able to tap the domestic traveller info, you're probably already way ahead. Vatican City

Hello,

Please do not just erase useful information in an article. If you want to contribute, please do so without deleting.

Magamma —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Magamma (talkcontribs)

I don't really understand your comment. The only work of yours that I deleted was "which opperates from The Vatican City," which had syntactical, spelling, and grammatical problems, and is redundant with earlier mentions in the article. Also, you can sign your talk page comments by typing four tildes (~~~~). If you don't have tildes on your keyboard, you can click the link next to "Sign your name" below the edit window --Peter Talk 00:47, 20 July 2012 (EDT)

Sanliurfa Page/ Abraham's Path

Hi there You keep undoing my addition of AP to the Sanliurfa page under 'do'. I represent the Path in Turkey. It is a walkway like the Pennine Way or the Lycian Way or the Way of St. James. It is a cultural route and not a trek sold by village home stays. It exists as a separate entity from village home stays, and it will exist long after village home stays has bitten the dust. I happen to be the spokesperson for Village Home Stays (I am its creator, but I don't own it, I just act as an intermediary between foreign visitors and village home owners)and also the representative in Turkey of the cultural trekking route: Abraham's Path. The Path stretches from Sanliurfa to Hebron, and I organize the Turkish bit (way marking, mapping, planning walks for people etc). So, Abraham's Path and Village Home Stays are not a double listing. One is a walk which is open to the public, like the Pennine Way; one is accommodation. I happen to represent both of them. Please see the international site at www.abrahampath.org and also the Turkey Culture Routes site at www.culturetroutesinturkey.com. Many of the routes on that site are represented on Wikitravel, so why not Abraham's Path? Abraham's Path has NOTHING to do with Village home stays except for the fact that I represent both of them, and Village Home Stays is on the Path, but then so are all of the other accommodations listed on the page. i.e. you can walk along AP in Turkey and stay at village home stays or the Hotel Arte or the Aslan Konuk Evi etc.

Thanks for reviewing Halen Belgium

Dear,

thank you for reviewing my page called Halen :) I updated a lot more today however some troubles maybe you can help as you are very active over here :)

- first problem ... in the Halen page it says Netherlands ... that is incorrect is should be Belgium Flanders region. - When I want to upload images in wilitravel share it gives me a mimetype error ... I use .jpg saved with irfanview. Also tried gimp still same error. Do you have any idea how to solve this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HaerdenC (talkcontribs)

Whoops! I was a little careless with that breadcrumb! If you are interested in how to set up the breadcrumb trail at the top of the article, it is controlled by the tag at the bottom that looks like {{IsPartOf|Limburg (Belgium)}}. It's fixed now, though.
I don't know what's going wrong with the image upload, but if you continue to experience the mimetype error, would you please create a bug report, so the tech team can review it. Following our upgrade to a newer MediaWiki version in June we have had a very large number of severe tech issues, which unfortunately seem to increase in severity over time... --Peter Talk 10:47, 10 August 2012 (EDT)
