US Airways (IATA: US, IACO: AWE)  is a major airline based in the United States and a member of the Star Alliance network. It is predominantly a domestic carrier, but also offers frequent service between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Israel and Brazil. It's the only U.S. Major airline without any destination to East Asia although it had some codshare with United Airlines and other Asian Airlines. In addition to mainline operations, US Airways also has sales agreements with several regional airlines that are operated under the US Airways Express banner. Express flights use turboprop and regional jets to bring service to smaller locales that would be impractical or uneconomical to operate mainline flights to. Some of the largest regional jets also feature a small First Class cabin.
NOTE: The following list shows the airports that are operated by US Airways Prior to Merger. THIS LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE AMERICAN AIRLINES, The Airline US Airways is merging with. Once the Merger is completed, All of US Airways' Hubs are under American Airlines.
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is the airline's official headquarters and is a major hub for flights throughout the western United States as well as several transcontinental flights. Besides serving the United States, it also serves numerous destinations throughout Canada and Mexico. Aside from that, PHX is also the only hub to offer non-stop flights to Alaska and Hawai'i. It is currently US's only hub without transatlantic service.
- Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is US Airways' primary international hub for flights to Europe and Israel and is well connected with other east coast cities, in addition to featuring some transcontinental service to the west coast.
- Douglas International Airport (CLT) in Charlotte is US Airways' largest hub, having more daily departures than any other hub. CLT is the primary international hub for flights to Latin America, the Caribbean, and Brazil with a handful of departures to Europe.
US Airways offers two class service on both international and domestic flights, including express flights on Canadair CRJ-700, CRJ-900 and Embraer 175 regional jets. Express flights on smaller regional jets and turboprops are all-economy. On longhaul international service, the premium cabin is called Envoy, while on domestic and shorthaul international service, it is called First Class.
- The Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 are the flagship of the US Airways fleet, and are found on most core transatlantic routes from Philadelphia and Charlotte. Envoy on this aircraft type features fully-flat suites with direct isle access, gourmet dining and beverages. Both Envoy and Economy on this aircraft type feature in-seat Audio Video on Demand (AVOD).
- The Boeing 767-200 is found on less busier international flights (and is also used for select flights between Philadelphia and Charlotte). Envoy on this aircraft is an angled "lie-flat" suite, with portable media players distributed to passengers. Economy only features overhead screens.
- The Boeing 757-200 has two distinct configurations. The first, used on "thin" transatlantic flights has twelve old style Envoy cradle seats up front, while the second domestic configuration (primarily used for Hawaii flights), has fourteen standard First Class seats. International passengers in Envoy are distributed with portable media players, like on the 767.
- The Airbus A321 is used primarily for transcontinental flights. This is currently the only aircraft in the fleet to feature in-flight wifi (although US is adding wifi and streaming wireless video to the rest of the domestic fleet over the next two or three years.)
- The Airbus A320, A319, and Embrear E-190 are used on most other domestic flights.
US Airways sets aside window and isle seats at the front of the main cabin as "Choice Seats." While they are physically the same as other coach seats, they are the first to be served and among the first to disembark. They can be purchased for between $5 and $25, depending on the length of the flight, and are available free to Dividend Miles preferred members. Exit row and bulkhead seats are exclusively available to preferred members prior to the day of departure.
Frequent flyer program
US Airways' frequent flyer program is called Dividend Miles.
Dividend Miles members can earn miles when flying on any Star Alliance carrier, as well as Hawaiian Airlines (inter-island flights only), Virgin Atlantic (United Kingdom), Qatar Airlines, Royal Jordanian, and Bahamasair. All paid flights on US Airways, US Airways Express as well as United Airlines earn full mileage, while mileage accrual on other partner airlines depends on the fare paid from zero to 100% of flight mileage. In addition, miles can be earned with a variety of travel, retail, and financial partners.
Miles can be redeemed for award flights on any of the airlines listed above, subject to availability. For itineraries exclusively involving flights on US Airways and US Airways Express, it is also possible to pay a higher amount of miles to bypass capacity controls.
Miles can also be redeemed for single class of service upgrades on US Airways, however if the passenger is not traveling on a full fare (Y or B) then a surcharge applies. Upgrade awards are also available on other Star Alliance carriers, although the passenger must be traveling on a full fare.
Dividend Miles cannot be transferred into other programs, but can also be redeemed for hotel stays, car rentals, and some newspaper and magazine offerings. Miles earned do not expire as long as there is some earning or redemption activity at least once every 18 months.
Preferred status is earned based on the number of preferred qualifying miles (PQMs) or preferred qualifying segments (PQSs) flown in a calendar year on US Airways, US Airways Express, any Star Alliance carrier, or Virgin Atlantic (but not the other airline partners listed above). Preferred members are given priority check-in, boarding, and standby privileges, a dedicated reservations line, baggage fee waivers as well as bonus miles, complimentary upgrades to First Class on domestic flights among other benefits.
The basic status levels are:
- Silver Preferred - 25,000 PQMs or 30 PQSs - Star Alliance Silver
- Gold Preferred - 50,000 PQMs or 60 PQSs - Star Alliance Gold
- Platinum Preferred - 75,000 PQMs or 90 PQSs - Star Alliance Gold
- Chairman's Preferred - 100,000 PQMs or 120 PQSs - Star Alliance Gold
A Million Miler, one who has flown 1 million miles on US Airways and US Airways Express (including miles flown on AmericaWest Airlines prior to their merger with US Airways in 2008). Million Milers receive Silver Preferred status for life, regardless of future flight activity.
US Airways' main lounge network is called the US Airways Club. The clubs offer light refreshments such as fruit and crackers, complimentary soft drinks and some alcoholic beverages (domestic beer and house wine) and WiFi. Premium beverages and meals are available for purchase. The US Airways Clubs are open to paying US Airways or United Club members, passengers traveling in Envoy (or any Star Alliance International Business Class or First Class) as well as Star Alliance Gold members; (United, and US Airways Star Alliance Gold members are only granted access when on a same-day international itinerary on a Star Alliance carrier, however). One-time passes are available for $50 at the club, or $39 online.
