Tysons Corner is in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia. While best known among Marylanders and Washingtonians for its huge mall, it has become in more recent years a major center of business in Northern Virginia, and is starting to look like an actual city. Once (if) it gets its Metrorail Silver Line station, it's fair to expect it will become a major city.

For now, it's best to bring a car (and there is a ton of free parking). It is conveniently located right by the intersection of I-495 (the Capital Beltway), I-66, and VA-295, which connects it quickly to Dulles International Airport IAD. Ronald Reagan National Airport DCA is also a reasonable 30-50 minute drive along I-66, while it's going to be over an hour from Baltimore-Washington International Airport BWI down I-95 to I-495.

By public transport

WMATA, which operates the DC Metrorail, operates a station in Tysons Corner. For more information on riding the Metrorail, see Washington DC#Get_In

By car

There is plenty of free parking. Tysons Corner is conveniently located right by the intersection of I-495 (the Capital Beltway), I-66, and VA-295.

Get around

Tysons Corner is small enough to get around on foot, although it is quite auto-friendly.

See

Do

Buy

 • Tysons Corner Mall, 1961 Chain Bridge Rd, +1 703 847-7300, [1]. M-Sa 10AM-9:30PM, Su 11AM-7PM. Unless you are here on business, it's rare to visit anything other than the huge mall itself. Split in two, Tysons 1 has the wider selection of stores and the movie theater, while Tysons 2 has the more upscale stores. The mall is anchored by... everything—it's huge.

Eat

 • Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 1960 Chain Bridge Rd, +1 703 442-8384, [2]. M-Th 5PM-10PM, Sa 5PM-10:30PM, Su 5PM-9PM. Just next to the mall is one a great steakhouse (there is a Ruth's Chris up the street too, which is another chain to be reckoned with). Beyond the steak, the wine list received the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator three years running. $25-55.

Drink

Sleep

Surprisingly, especially given the fact that all the area hotels appellate "Tysons Corner" to their names, there are no hotels in the Tysons Corner proper—they are located mostly in McLean and Vienna, as well as one in Falls Church.

Get out

Great (non-chain) food is not far away. Falls Church in particular, has fabulous destination dining, just across the Beltway at 2941 Restaurant (contemporary American, and easily some of the best in the D.C. area), as well as some of the best Vietnamese food outside Vietnam, particularly at Eden Center.
