{{newsitem|Contract Awarded for First Segment of Moscow-St.Petersburg Motorway|July 27 2009|Russia has awarded the first contract of the long proposed [[Moscow]]-[[Saint Petersburg]] toll motorway to a European consortium. The $1 billion, 43 kilometer (27mi.) segment will run from KM 15 to KM 58 of the current M10 highway through Moscow's northwestern suburbs, including a 10-lane segment to connect Sheremetyevo with the city. A piece of Russian legislation signed in June set up a government agency which will oversee construction and later operate the 650 kilometer (405mi) toll motorway, which has been on the drawing boards for over a decade to replace the congested (in some places 2-lane) M10 highway. Contracts for more segments are expected to be signed in the coming couple of years for the 8 to 10-lane motorway, which officials hope will operate with a 150 km/h speed limit and around a 3-4 rouble toll per kilometer.
