Tra Vinh is a city in Southern Vietnam.

Get in

There are direct (mini)buses from HCMC. Another option is to arrive by boat. Eather private chartered or you can try to get on a cargo boat from for example Ben Tre.

Get around

The center itself is small enough to cover on foot, to explore the greater area you can rent a bike from the tourist office or via some hotels. Tourist office also sells a map (20.000VND, January 2012) which covers both the city and the province of Tra Vinh.

See

There is a nice and big market right in the center. The city also has some Khmer pagodas.

Do

Explore the center on foot, or rent a bike to see the province of Tra Vinh. The beach side supposed to be one of the nicest in the Mekong Delta.

A place to rent motorbikes is located on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai 42B (about 5-10 minute walk from the center). The shop is called Nguyet. Price for a decent automatic is 200.000VND, manual is 100.000-150.000VND. (January 2012)

Sleep

There are some affordable hotels in the center.

  • Phuong Dong Hotel, 1A Phan Dinh Phuong St., 074 865 486. Has simple but clean rooms with motorbike parking and wifi. Some rooms have a balcony. Not much English appears to be spoken.(July 2012) 95,000VND - 170,000VND depending on combination of beds/fan/A/C/hot water/fridge.
  • Duy Tung/Van Thanh Hotel, 151 Le Loi. Has nice rooms. Would not give a room to a single traveler even though the staff had a key ready and multiple keys on room hooks behind her. (July 2012) 200,000VND - 300,000 VND.
