Toubakouta is on the main road between Kaolack and The Gambia. From Dakar, the best way to get there is to take a sept place to Ziguinchor and specifiy to the driver that you wish to get off at Toubakouta.

The area is well served by motor scooter taxis suitable for one or two people, usually for 500CFA. The town is small enough that the locals know every hotel and can take you there quickly.

The staff can arrange pirogue trips up the river to see local wildlife and bird hangouts. At night have a plate of freshly caught local fish (perhaps one you caught yourself) and rice.
