The Dalles, Oregon


The Dalles is approximately 85 miles east of [Portland] and is within the [Columbia Gorge].

This city is centrally located so travel within Oregon and Washington is convenient. [Mt. Hood] is approx. 60 miles away. The [Oregon Coast] -175 miles. [Seattle]- 245 miles. [Spokane] - 265 miles.


The Dalles is a historic city and you can see this when driving through downtown. Many of the buildings are very old. You can visit the Fort Dalles Museum to see old military artifacts and medical equipment.

Windsurfing, fishing, boating, and hiking are only some of what this city has to offer. It is said to be one of the best places to learn how to windsurf and fishing for sturgeon is very popular as well.

There is The Dalles Dam, a hydroelectric dam, which produces enough electricity to serve a city the size of Seattle. They offer a tour of the dam and there is a visitor's center as well.
