This article is pretty good already. I saw that it only had outline status so I immediately bumped the status to usable, but I feel that it won't take much more to reach guide status. People of Porto: plunge forward! Robert 01:00, 5 September 2008 (EDT)

I stayed a few days in Porto and at first, I was very good about paying for each metro trip, but after a couple days I got a bit complacent and stopped swiping my card for each ride, because you come to realize (as mentioned above) there are no barriers so there is a type of honor system, but be wary. I was unfortunate enough to be caught by the Metro police on my last day. They check your card and see all of the transactions made on it. I was very lucky to get away with it. The two police made me get off the train at the next stop so that they could talk to me. They asked me several times things like "so you think you can just ride for free?" in broken English and were very intimidating. One of them calculated some figures and told me I owed something around 300 Euros. I freaked and pleaded, and honestly I played dumb, said I didn't remember, the train was arriving just as I was to the station...etc. I also had nothing even close to that much money on me! I think what helped is that I had a payment on my card, I just didn't swipe it in. What didn't help with my playing dumb is that they saw I did actually know how the system worked. Moral of the story: it seems like a free ride, and you may get away with it a few times, but if you're caught and aren't as fortunate as I was, it will be much more expensive than the few Euros per trip! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:22.214.171.124 (talk • contribs)
The "Cidade Invicta" designation isn't related to the french invasions. The term actually comes from the Portuguese Civil war a few years later.
The french invaded and pillaged the city during the second french invasion, thus making no sense to call the city Invicta (Undefeated). --126.96.36.199 12:39, 22 February 2011 (EST)
