So I changed the name from Popayán to Popayan. A Google search for Popayan shows that the equivalent English spelling for Popayán is Popayan. -- Huttite 05:41, 27 May 2004 (EDT)

Huh? Popayán gets 5x more hits than the accentless version. The place is called "Popayán" and that accent makes a difference in pronunciation, why willfully put it in the wrong place? Naturally a redirect from "Popayan" is a good idea, but I just don't see the logic here. Jpatokal 10:57, 27 May 2004 (EDT)
All right guys, take it outside... -- Paul Richter 11:38, 27 May 2004 (EDT)
The Google search results for Popayán are generally not in English, those for Popayan are generally in English and twice as numerous as English search results for Popayán. Further general discussion should be to Foreign-language names rather than outside.... -- Huttite 06:56, 28 May 2004 (EDT)
