Feedback

This article is apparently being updated as a high school project, which is great, but the process would be much easier if it was more collaborative. Some concerns that have been raised by myself and other Wikitravel editors thus far:

  • One of the specific non-goals of the site is to NOT be a yellow pages, so listing every restaurant in town is unnecessary. Having just a few listings with descriptions makes for a far better guide. Additionally, following the standard format helps make the guide more readable.
  • Several of the images now in the article appear to be copyright violations and have been listed for deletion on Wikitravel shared.
  • Wikitravel uses standard section headings, so this article should follow those headings.

The edits to this article are much appreciated, but this article would improve more quickly if the students making these edits read the Wikitravel guidelines outlined so that we can all focus on getting content in this article rather than worrying about formatting and layout. -- Ryan • (talk) • 01:31, 3 November 2009 (EST)

I re-wrote the content that was taken verbatim from Google maps - that content is copyright Google and not freely released, so it can't be used here. Turn-by-turn directions from the center of a city like Chicago to downtown Monticello are also unnecessarily detailed. Last of all, links to Google maps are explicitly called out in Wikitravel:External links as something NOT to include in an article. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:46, 9 November 2009 (EST)
This article just seems to be a perfect candidate for soft security. The school project may actually improve the article in other ways if we let it run. Sure, lets offer to guide in the right direction, but otherwise lets just come back in a week or two, and fix it up. --inas 20:40, 9 November 2009 (EST)
I was hoping that by using a 30 minute protection I could get the attention of the students working on this article - they've added several copyrighted images and some copyrighted text, amongst other issues - but if that fails and you or someone else will review this article in a week to remove any copyright violations and fix any formatting issues then I'm fine with that. -- Ryan • (talk) • 20:46, 9 November 2009 (EST)

I am part of the project, and we will be done in a few weeks. But I do appreciate your help.

As for the pictures, they are ALL pictures that WE have taken. I do not mind choosing other ones, but can you please tell me what is wrong with them and how they are copyright violations? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ariel Lickton (talkcontribs)

There are two issues with the images that have been uploaded: #1 is that despite the very large warning message on the English Wikitravel upload page, images are still being uploaded here. #2 is that the images that were uploaded to Wikitravel shared (the correct image repository) have no license or copyright information, despite very clear instructions on that page about how to add such information, making them invalid for use here. It is illegal to use copyrighted material without a license, so we are very, very vigilant about making sure that copyright law is followed. -- Ryan • (talk) • 11:16, 18 November 2009 (EST)
