Lung yer bins

So my Norwegian is pretty cræppy, but Longyearbyen is definitely not pronounced "long year bye-n" as if it were English, and "Lungyerbin" is how my ears hear it. Jpatokal 05:52, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

When I was there I heard people saying it like 'long-year-byin', although many Norwegians miss out the 'y', making 'long-year-bin', but I've never heard the 'lung' part. Is a pronunciation guide really necessary here? Since the name was derived from English anyway, Norwegians understand the common English pronunciation just fine. Jamezcd 10:19, 12 May 2008 (EDT)
