Talk:Driving in Mexico
I'm just getting started on this (so please, edit away if you'd like!). I'm used to driving in Baja so I'm not entirely sure where the rules differ. Needs a section on etiquitte. But I've got to go to work, so...--Justfred 15:39, 27 September 2006 (EDT)
One thing I'm not sure of, is how I go about inserting this into articles. I've already linked this from Travel Topics where the other "driving in" articles are. I mean, I can probably figure out where to stick it, but it seems like going through every Mexico page and inserting it would be wrong. I figure I'll remove generic tips from pages where I see them, but...--Justfred 23:20, 27 September 2006 (EDT)
- The appropriate place to link to this would be the Mexico article. We (have to) assume that anyone traveling somewhere in Mexico reads that article, so linking from more specific guides would be redundant. - Todd VerBeek 11:21, 19 May 2007 (EDT)
What's the deal with the hearing you have to go to if you get done speeding mentioned in the main article. All I can interpret this as is that you don't just get written a ticket. Tarcus 17:41, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

I beg to differ with the above advice. It is outdated. The reason you have auto insurance is to keep from going to jail. I have had accidents and know this. What the author above is referring to is that in the case of a death or serious injury, the drivers are expected to stay until it is sorted out. For gringos, that means staying in a hotel, not jail. Your insurance adjuster is there to protect your rights and should be called immediately after an accident.
I have been helped by so many Mexicans who have stopped to help me that it seems chauvinistic to not stop and help others. In nearly 40 years of driving Mexico, I have never seen a bandito.
- RE Advice: You Sir, obviously were not near a tourist location. 2 people I met at our resort both stopped to give assistance and both were robbed. Granted, the resort had hundreds of people, and if others stopped without issue I'm sure I would not have been notified. However, 2 I heard of in 2 weeks? Yes, it is a problem.
