Understand[edit]

Svealand was the land of the svear, the Suiones, documented by Roman historian Tacitus. They united with the Geats of Götaland in the 11th century to form Sweden. In the 16th century, the soon-to-be king Gustav Vasa took refuge in the province Dalarna to avoid the Danish king Christian II who had massacred much of the Swedish nobility in Stockholm.

Central Svealand is known as Bergslagen, a mining and manufacturing district that was the core of Swedish industry from the 14th century to the 1960s. Since then, the mill towns have declined with similarities to the West Midlands of England, Ruhr in Germany and the American Midwest, while Stockholm has become more dominant.

Talk[edit]

As with the rest of Sweden, most people speak fluent English.
