Sutton is a village in the Eastern Townships located in the south-east of Quebec.

Get In

Sutton is located on Route 139 about 90 minutes south-east of Montreal via Highway 10, or 80 minutes north of Burlington, Vermont via Interstate 89. Veolia (1 877 348 5599)[1] provides a 110 minute bus service to and from Montreal which runs twice a day, dropping off passengers at the gas station in the center of the village.

Get around

The village is small enough to walk around, there is no public transport. Most services and restaurants are located along rue Principale. In the center of the village rue Maple winds up to Mont SUTTON, a 5 minute drive. The ski resort provides a shuttle service between the village nd the mountain during the winter on weekends and school break weeks. There is a taxi service - inquire at the Tourist Office on rue Principale opposite the Town Hall for details.

  • Start by visiting the Sutton Tourist Information Office[2] at 24a rue Principale Sud. Their staff are very knowledgable and helpful. Pick up a leaflet for a self-guided walking tour which highlights historical buildings.

  • Outdoor Activities The Sutton Mountains provides the focus for the village's outdoor activities. Hiking and snowshoeing is available on 80kms of well maintained trails at Parc Sutton[3] for which a $4 day pass is required available at the Sutton Tourist Office[4].
For downhill skiing and snowboarding Mont SUTTON [5] offers beautiful glade skiing at Quebec's third largest snow resort.

Cross country ski and snowboard enthusiasts are well catered for at pleinairsutton.coop[6]located half way between the village and mountain. This is also the location for Arbre Sutton[7], a tree top adventure park. Cyclists can enjoy quiet, scenic dirt back roads or paved roads including La Route Verte, a Quebec-wide cycle network, which passes through Sutton.

  • Cultural Follow the walking trail through the village to visit examples of Sutton's Loyalist buildings or take a self guided drive of the area's cemeteries (maps available at the Sutton Tourist Office[8] ). Arts Sutton[9] at 7 Academy has a regularly changing program of contemporary art exhibitions.
  • The Wine Route [10], is a signposted route that threads 18 small vineyards together including two in Sutton.Domaine Bresee makes an excellent rosé and also sells their own organic beef. In nearby Glen Sutton, Chapelle Sainte Agnes[11] vineyard has an outstanding location which can be visited on a guided tour on Wednesdays and Sundays in summer and autumn.

Rue Principal, the main road running through Sutton's center, is lined with shops of all kinds, including clothing stores, art stores, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Eat

For a small village there is an excellent selection of restaurants and foodie outlets all located on Main Street. Food tends to be of a high quality and reasonably priced.

In the village there are two bars - The Lounge St-Patrick with a DJ on weekends, contests and après ski snack food, but Pub Mocador is more cozy with a nice atmosphere. In addition many of the restaurants also have bars where you can have a drink without eating notably Le Pleasant and Auberge des Appalaches.
