Kungsholmen is in Stockholm. Kungsholmen is a district as well as an island. The district of kungsholmen consists of three islands. Lilla Essingen, Stora Essingen and the Kungsholmen island.

Get in

There are several subway stations in Kungsholmen. On the green line you have Fridhemsplan, Thorildsplan and Kristineberg and on the blue line you have Fridhemsplan, Rådhuset and Stadshagen. There are also several busses available.

The City Hall [1] or Stadshuset as it is called in Swedish is a fascinating building and one of the landmarks of Stockholm. Here the Nobel Prize Banquet takes place on the 10th of December every year.

  • Suntanning and swimming. On a sunny summer day it is possible to get a suntan and take a swim at the rocky beach in Fredhäll. To get there you can take bus 62 to Fredhäll and get off at the end station or take the subway to Kristineberg free.
  • Kayaking, [2]. Another nice activity is to rent a Kayak and explore the islands from the water. Kafe Kajak has coffe and food, but also provides kayaks for rent. It is a good idea to give them a call first and make a reservation. Sometimes the kayaks can be fully booked. 150 sek for 2 hours.
  • Picnic in Rålambshovsparken. In summer a lot of people go to Rålambshovsparken wich is a big park or rather a grass field where you can have a picnic or just spend some time in the sun.

There are some splendid bars around the Fridhemsplan district of the island, for instance Dova's which is know for it's cheap ale prices and quirky clientele, and Johnny's, who's resident barmaid bears some resemblance to 90s American TV star Pamela Anderson. These are some of the best value for money drinking establishments in the city - just don't spill anyone's pint.
