The village of Stenness is situated on the main A965 between Kirkwall and Stromess, but is best known for it's UNESCO World Heritage Listed Neolithic sights.
Frequent Orkney Buses (part of Rapsons) pass through the village and next to some of the sights along the A965 between Kirkwall and Stromness. During the summer, special tourist buses pause for 5 minutes at the Stones of Stenness and 15 minutes at the Ring of Brodgar before continuing on the Skara Brae.
The main sights at Stenness are on or within 1km of the A965. You can walk between them, although it's more pleasant to drive as there is no footpath beside the main road.
