Travel Warning WARNING: The province of Sichuan suffered a catastrophic earthquake on May 12, 2008, centered on Wenchuan County, about 100km north of Chengdu city. Many cities have been nearly completely destroyed, and over 22,000 people have been killed. The damage has been mostly within Sichuan but neighbouring provinces have also been affected to a lesser extent. Other areas of China remain normal. There has also been Strong Violence in areas bordering Tibet, due to the tension between China and the Tibetan people.
