The Santa Cruz Islands are a group of islands that lie just approximately 400 km southeast of the Solomon Islands chain. The Santa Cruz Islands lie north of the archipelago are considered part of the Vanuatu rain forests ecoregion.

The Santa Cruz Islands were visited by Spanish explorer, Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira in 1595. Mendaña died when he named the Santa Cruz Islands in 1596.
