Samraong is a city in North-western Cambodia.

The capital of Oddar Meanchay Province, Samraong is a regional hub that travellers in hinterland North-western Cambodia will pass through or use as a base. It is also the Cambodian town nearest the O'Smach/Chong Chom border crossing with Thailand.

Get in

Unpaved highway 56 runs west from Samraong, to Sisophon via Banteay Chhmar.

Highway 68 is now paved and heads south, linking the town with Kralanh on National Highway 6 and hence Siem Reap

There is also a road heading east to Anlong Veng

Paramount Angkor Transport serves the town with buses.

There is a border crossing with Chong Chom in Thailand's Surin Province at O'Smach, about 35 km north of Samraong.

Get around

The town offers little except a glimpse of provincial Cambodian life.

Recover from or prepare for the onslaught of back-country travel: laundry, internet and ATM are available.

Acleda Bank has an ATM in the big, grey office building which dominates the town.

The usual Khmer stuff. Try the market.

There are several guesthouses and hotels on the main street near Acleda Bank.

There is an internet cafe on the main street next to the bus office. $0.75 /hr.
