There are two ferries from Canada and one from the US. You need to make reservations as they can be fully booked for weeks.
FROM THE US: Griffings Airlines can get you to Pelee Island. They have run for over 50 years. Cost for 2007 (as of 3/07) is $89.00 USD roundtrip for each adult and $44.50 USD roundtrip for each child. You can call up to 2 weeks in advance to book your flight. FREE TRAVEL TIP #1: Bring your passport, becasue as of Jan 8, 2007, Griffings will not even book your reservation if you don't have one.
Flight schedules can vary. Generally, it's 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the off season, with many more flights added in the summer and on weekends. Call to inquire. Major credit cards are accepted. Plenty of free parking is available. There is a small wiating area, a coffee shop, a full-service spa and an ATM. (I was kidding about the spa, but the waiting room window does act as a sauna on hot, humid days.)
The flight itself is not long- about 20 minutes. It is very enjoyable on a calm day, while windy days make it more interesting. You can bring 1-2 bags each, but I'm sure each flight has a weight limit. You can bring beer and wine back and forth from the island into the US and Canada, but in limited quantities.
FREE TRAVEL TIP #2 Be sure you have transportation waiting on Pelee island, because it's a looooong walk into civilization. If you are staying at a bed and breakfast, some hosts will even pick you up if you ask nicely in advance. FREE TRAVEL TIP #3: If you are stranded, the Island Taxi service phone number is (519)724-2072.
FROM CANADA: Your one and only choice is the Pelee Island Airport. It has a 3,300 foot paved runway. It will land private aircraft: Call the airport manager at (519) 724-2144. The small quonset hut that serves as the Pelee Island Airport offers "limited" amenities. As it turns out, "limited" is French-Canadian for "absolutely none".
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by friendly Customs Officers (young, friendly university students) who will ask you a variety of questions. Answer them quickly and clearly and it's easy sailing. If you are from the US, please don't embarrass the rest of us with you smart-aleck comments.
Plenty of free parking is available. In the drier months, trust that your vehicle will be covering in road dust after sitting awhile in the parking lot.
Air service is available during the winter months through Pelee Island Transportation Co. Call 1-800-661-2220 or (519) 724-2115 for information
Bicycling is the best way to see the 9 mile island. They are available for rent near the West Dock.
