Finnish is still spoken by some communities in the far Northeast (such as Finland)

Flights are available into Duluth International Airport and Hibbing Municipal Airport via Northwest airlines. Greyhound Bus Lines serve Duluth. Major highways serving the area are Interstate 35 from Minneapolis, US 53 from Eau Claire and northwestern Wisconsin, US 2 from the upper peninsula of Michigan, and MN 61 from Ontario, Canada.

Get around

Highway 61 goes from Duluth to Canada, and you can disregard the speed limit. There are no cops.

A superhighway exists between Finland and Gilbert, but one can only see it if they truly believe in the spirit of the range.

See

The Iron Range Interpetive Center in Chisholm, describing the lives of the first miners in NE Minnesota.

The Greyhound Bus Museum in Hibbing, exhibiting early coaches and telling the story of how Greyhound got its start.

Bob Dylan's boyhood home in Hibbing.

The Paulucci Planetarium in Hibbing, on US 169.

Tour Hibbing High School on 21st Street and 8th Avenue East.

Do

Go to the North Shore

Eat

Iron rich foods in the Iron Range

Taconite residue in Silver Bay

Knitting Knight, in Hibbing, is a pretty good restaurant.

Drink

There is more beer drinking per capita in the Iron Range than in the Twin Cities.

Stay safe

Don't get drawn and quartered by four ore-transport vessels while in Duluth.

Be very careful of walking on the ferrous soil in the range, one can easily slip

Don't attempt to get in a fight in a bar in the range, you will get beat up.

Don't wear "loud" clothing that identifies you as a city dweller if you are such. Just like in a Muslim country, one should attempt to blend in with the locals if one values their life. Wear a plaid shirt and speak with a ridiculously stereotypical provincial accent. Women should wear a long dress at all times.

Beavers are extraordinarily vicious in late March, especially towards loggers and Jews. What do you think happened to Hibbing's once-prosperous Jewish community...?

Beware of Ojibwa Indians in Cook County. There have been no notable massacres of recent, which is actually a good thing.
