There are two airports which serve Narvik.

  • The larger of the two airports is the Harstad/Narvik Evenes airport, also serving the city of Harstad. The airport has several direct flights daily to Oslo. Flights are also operated to Trondheim, Bodø and Tromsø, and there are occasional charter flights as well. The airport is 75 km from Narvik, and a journey by car takes over an hour. Airport buses run between Narvik and Evenes airport taking 75 minutes, and costing NOK 210 for a one-way journey, and NOK 315 for a return journey.
  • The smaller of the two airports is Narvik Airport, Framnes. This is a short runway airport, only served by Widerøe with flights to Bodø and Andenes. Framnes is only 2 km west of central Narvik.

By rail

Narvik is the terminus of the Malmbane railway line from the Swedish towns of Kiruna, Gällivare, Boden and Luleå, from where you can continue on towards Stockholm or the Finnish border. Narvik has no connections to the rest of the Norwegian rail network that ends at Bodø. Fauske, 150 km south of Narvik is the disembarking station for Narvik.

By bus

One can travel from Fauske to Narvik by bus [1]. The trip is quite scenic and takes about 5 hours.

Get around

Narvik is a compact city which is easy to navigate. Tourist info office is on the main street, and the railway station is easy to find as well. www.destinationnarvik.no and its links will help you to find most of what you are looking for about Narvik.

If flying in from Oslo Gardemoen to Harstad/Narvik/Evenes airport west of Narvik, a one-hour bus transit is available right to the town centre.

Narvik has a local bus service with routes to neighborhoods outside the centre, including Ankenes, Framnes, and Beisfjord. Tickets for short journeys are NOK 30, NOK 15 for children (under 16) and seniors (67 years and over). Services run seven days a week, but with no service on Sunday morning. Schedules are available online (in Norwegian); the paper schedule for the Ofoten region can also be downloaded [2].

There are shops and kiosks on the main street, plus there are two large shopping centres. One near the railway station and the other in the centre of the town.

The Express Bus (Northbound) goes to Finnsnes and Tromsø with conections to Alta and the Northcapp. The Southbound to Fauske (Railway)and Bodø (Bus,Railway and Airport)

There is an Airport Express Bus to Harstad/Narvik/Evenes Airport (EVE) that conects with flights to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL).
