Mount Myoko

Myōkō (妙高) is a city in Niigata prefecture, in the central Chubu region of the main Japanese island Honshu.

Myokokogen merged with Arai City and Myoko Village in 2005 to form what is presently known as "Myoko".

Get in

By train

Myoko is located on the JR Shinetsu Line. The station name is Myokokogen, which was taken from the former city of Myokokogen.

Myoko can be reached from Tokyo by taking the Nagano Shinkansen to the final stop of Nagano, then changing to the Shinetsu Line local. The trip time averages to 2 3/4 hours at a cost of ¥8900.

From western Japan, take the Wide View Shinano limited express from Nagoya to Nagano and transfer to the Shinetsu Line (4 1/4 hours from Nagoya, ¥7760).

These trips are free with the Japan Rail Pass.

  • Myoko Sunshine Land. An all-purpose leisure land set in the grand natural surroundings. The park includes activities that both children and adults can enjoy, from the thrilling roller coaster to the 55 meter tall ferries wheel.

Do

Myoko Kogen gets about 13m of snowfall annually, making it an ideal spot for the avid skier and snowboarder. There are three major ski resorts surrounding the massive Mount Myoko. Myoko Kogen is also one of the oldest ski resorts in Japan, with some hotels and onsens dating back to the 1930s.
