From Delhi to Kathgodam travel by overnight train. From kathgodam it is better to take a car.
The northern side of Mukteshwar is occupied by IVRI and perhaps the PWD Circuit House is only the place to offer good Himalayan sight. It is better that you stay at Peora which is about 10 km from Mukteswar on way to Almora and good apartments are available for staying in comfort (Resort Sequester). Peora offers excellent Himalayan view with its snow capped ranges. Or else you may choose to stay at Sagarkhet towards Ramgarh. Couple of lodges are available there but water supply may pose a problem.
Nainital - the lake city, Almora the ancient capital of Chand rulers.
