Muiden is a pleasant town of approximately 7000 people, on the shores of the IJmeer. The town is known for its yacht harbour and for its historic castle, Muiderslot. Its close proximity to Amsterdam makes it a rather nice daytrip for anyone looking to get out of the city.

Get in

By bus

Connexxion bus 136 runs from Amsterdam's Amstel Station every half hour. After leaving Amsterdam, the bus runs along side a freeway for a little while, before it turns down Amsterdamstraatsweg. The bus stop is at the end of this road. If you miss it, there is another stop just after the roundabout.

By car

There are large parking areas on the outskirts of Muiden. It's not worth taking your car into the town itself.

Get around

Muiden is quite small, so getting around on foot is really the only reasonable option.

See

Muiden's primary attraction is the 13th century Muiderslot. Tours of the castle cost 7 Euro, although they are usually in Dutch only.
