Kendall is a suburban area in Miami. It is located to the south and west of the downtown area. It is approximately bounded by US-1 to the east, SW 137th Avenue to the west, North Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street) to the north, and Coral Reef Drive (SW 152nd Street) to the south. While primarily residential, there are some interesting places to explore.
As Kendall is some distance from the downtown and beach areas, transportation by car is recommended. Kendall can be reached from the beaches and downtown by taking US-1 south to North Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street). Alternatively, Kendall can be reached by taking the Palmetto Expressway (FL-826) south to its terminus.
Portions of Kendall are accessible by Miami-Dade Transit. If one rides either of the two Metrorail lines south from downtown, there are two station stops in the east Kendall region, Dadeland North and Dadeland South. Both have connecting Metrobus service to further explore the Kendall area. Dadeland South Metrorail station is also the northern terminus for the South Dade Busway, which provides access to southern Miami-Dade communities of Pinecrest, Perrine, Cutler Bay, Princeton, Naranja, Homestead, and Florida City via dedicated bus lanes parallel to US-1. Many local bus routes to the south use the busway for a portion of their journey.
Bus lines that travel west from Dadeland North Metrorail station include the 88 bus, which traverses North Kendall Drive, the 104 bus, which traverses SW 104th Street, including connections to Miami-Dade College's Kendall Campus, and various express buses primarily used by commuters and requiring additional fare.
The Kendall vicinity includes several attractions that are worth the trip from downtown or the beaches, particularly if you have children.
Strip malls abound in the Kendall area; however, there are a few higher-end shopping destinations within the larger Kendall area.
There are numerous hotels within the Kendall area, ranging from basic budget accomodations to 4-star hotels. Most are easily accessible to transit with some being within walking distance of Metrorail.
These accomodations are all within easy walking distance of one of the two Dadeland Metrorail stations.
