Applications must generally be made well in advance, although a few temples that double as shukubo (宿坊) pilgrim lodges allow overnight visitors to participate.

  • Motsuji, Hiraizumi, Iwate — youth hostel operated by a temple, offers free meditation lessons in the morning to guests (July-Sept only)
