Maniitsoq is a medium-sized town in Western Greenland with about 2,800 people living on its uneven slopes. The town is situated at the mouth of a fjord, creating steep cliffs and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains that rise up from the fjord system. The town is know for many different adventure activities and therefore attracts adventure tourists from all around the world every year.
Whale safaris leaving from Maniitsoq are available from mid-July through the end of autumn. This is the time of year when most whales will be present in the sea near Maniitsoq. There is a good chance of seeing minke, humpback, fin and killer whales on these types of excursions.

The ski season in Maniitsoq is from March to May. The town is surrounded by some of the best skiing spots in the country, both alpine and cross-country. The area surrounding Maniitsoq is the biggest alpine ski area in Western Greenland and it is possible to ski from the top of the mountain all the way down to sea level in the fjord system.
River fishing is possible in the fjord system at the mouths of rivers. Tours can be arranged with local tour operators located in Maniitsoq. The most common type of fish to catch in the region is Char, which can be caught in salt and fresh water depending on the time of year.
The Maniitsoq region is dotted with deep fjords and the largest mountains in Western Greenland. This combination makes hiking in Maniitsoq exceptional and hikers will enjoy spectacular views of the green dale gorges and glaciers on hikes near Maniitsoq.
In Maniitsoq, there are kayaking expeditions for all skill levels of kayakers. The fjord system provides good shelter from winds and amazing inlets to explore. Local tourist offices schedule trips that range from beginner courses to several day expeditions for the most advanced kayakers.
