Makassar [1], also known as Ujung Pandang, is the capital of South Sulawesi province and the largest city on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Get In[edit]

By plane[edit]

Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (IATA: UPG) (ICAO: WAAA) is located 20 km from Makassar and has flights to Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, Kendari, Palu, Manado, Gorontalo, Ambon, Ternate, Manokwari, Sorong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jayapura.

Fares start at about Rp 500,000 on Lion Air from Denpasar.

A taxi to the city should cost about Rp 70,000 if arranged directly with the driver. The official airport charge is Rp 100,000 ( Note : this price doesn't include Toll Fee ). There is a shuttle bus ( Rp. 25.000, 2013 ) from the airport (bottom level) to the main road ( Jl. Ujung Pandang, kerebosi court ) and you can get becak or trycicle to any where around the town for about Rp. 3.000 - Rp. 10.000. Other option get Ojek ( taxi moto ) to the main street away from the airport about 3km ( Rp. 5.000 ) than get bemo to makassar mall ( town )

By boat[edit]

Makassar is a major port for Pelni ships. It is about 16 hours to Balikpapan, 24 to Flores (Marapokot) and more to Surabaya, and Tanjung Priok. Pelni has a website. An examplary price for 24 hours to Marapokot is 180.000 rupia.

By becak[edit]

Becak is a trishaw, unique design, very minimalist compared to the ones in Java. Fare depends on the distance, usually Rp 3,000-10,000 around town

By taxi[edit]

There's a lot of taxi companies, all have the same fare and all use meters.
