These Buses run at an interval of every half an hour between 5:30am to 6:00 pm. though its always better to confirm the last bus timing at bus stand as it changes during winters. Kumardhubi(KMME) railway station is the nearest railway station to maithon Dam at a distance of 9Kms. Local auto charges Rs-100. You can also get share autos from Kumardhubi to Kali Pahari in Maithon from where the Dam starts. From Dhanbad its a 1hr drive. Also there are buses from dhanbad which drop you at By pass road, from where you can take auto to Dam area. From Calcutta its approx 250Km oneside drive. Roads are good,except the Panagarh strech.

Get in

Maithon can be reached by train, bus or car, from Kolkata or Dhanbad. From Howrah Station catch trains heading to Asansol or Kumardubi(KMME). The distance of Maithon is 30Kms from Asansol and 40kms from Dhanbad. After reaching Asansol, one can hire Taxi or Auto. There is also Mini bus service from asansol bus stand to maithon. See

Maithon have India's oldest Dam with a huge water reservoir. The Reservoir have small islands in it. These islands can be reached by rowing boats. Most famous island is SABUJ DIP.

There is a temple at 2Km distance, Kalyaneswari Temple.

The another nearby place of interest is Panchet Dam at 30Km distance.


Do

6 seater rowing boat will charge Rs-300 and additional 20-50rs tip to the boatman allows you to experience rowing with your own hand. Also you have options to do paddle boating. Or take a hi-speed trip of the waterbody in a speed-boat by paying Rs-500.

Buy

Medical shop 3-4Km away, nearest ATM 5Km away. So dont shop, keep money for emergency. Infact no place to shop as such.

If you are going by road, on the way back, dont forget to pickup "Langcha"(Sweet) from Shaktigarh (Approx 20Km after Burdwan towards Kolkata).


Eat

On the Jharkhand end of the Dam you can get a varity of chat, dhokla, golgappa, chana-bhatura etc. On the Bengal end, dont miss the Paneer Pakora from Jhontu's shop. Its superb.

Drink

Maithon dont have a nearby bar or FL shop.

Sleep

DVC Guest House Majumdar Niwas This have a nice view of the waterbody and its the best place to stay if you dont mind to stay in Non-AC room. They have very few AC room. Non-AC rooms costs Rs-240. Have limited options for Meals. Can be booked from DVC office at Ultadanga.

Shanti Niwas A private guest house with no view of water body. Have nice rooms with AC & Non-AC rooms with varity of foods. Have parking place inside the premises. Can be contaced on 9830017777.
