Maibara (米原) is a city in Shiga, Japan. Get inMost of Maibara's visitors come in by train and never see more than the station. A major junction, Maibara is along the Tokaido Shinkansen line from Osaka and Kyoto to Nagoya and Tokyo (2 hours). It is also the eastern terminus of some kaisoku and shinkaisoku (translated as rapid and new rapid) commuter trains from the Kansai region. Some services continue on the Hokuriku Main Line as locals, stopping at every station until Nagahama or Ōmi-Shiotsu. A few trains proceed east, terminating at Ōgaki. Be aware that some eastbound rapid and special rapid services terminate at Yasu, which is short of Maibara when coming from the west. Get aroundSeeLook at Lake Biwa. Its the biggest lake in Japan.
