Hiking in the surrounding mountains.
Half of the road around the lake (Yunnan side) is paved and in not so good shape for bikes.
Chinese/Tibetan/western food in many different places.
Many places all around the lake.
Lige is a nice village on the north side of the lake with many hotels for backpackers.
- Padma Hotel, Lige, ☎ 08885822477, 15008787107, . A very nice hotel in a quieter sectionw of Lige Village. Next to the water, with views in some of the rooms. The owners do not speak much English, but they are hospitable and the food is good and reasonably priced. The young woman who does most of the interaction with customers goes by the nickname Huiui. There is free breakfast and they give you good green tea for free if you sit in the lobby for a few minutes. Free wireless, but it is slow like the rest of the town. The best time to use the internet in Lige is early morning, 6--9 AM, when most people are asleep, because the whole town shares only a few connections. There may be live guitar music, and the owner sometimes takes guests on rowboat rides. Also, in China, if you chat with people they usually offer you beer and cigarettes. 220 RMB.
Not authorized in the lake area, but you can.
To Lijiang, 230km, 4/5 hours by bus or van.
