Lovech

Lovech is a small town located in the northern part of Bulgaria. It used to be bigger regarding the population number of it.

Understand

Lovech (Ловеч) is known as "The Town of Lilacs" due to the big fertility of growing lilac in the town. River Osum runs through the town.

Get in

Buses from Sofia depart at 09:00,12:00,15:30 and 17:00 from the central bus station in Sofia (www.centralnaavtogara.bg) (14 BGN one way). Advance purchase of tickets is usually not necessary, except during major holidays.There are a few trains from Sofia every day (www.bdz.bg). To Lovech there are frequent buses from the bus station in Pleven (tel: +359.64.800.122). It is also possible to take the train there (with a change in Levski), but that takes much longer.

Get around

There are two main bus lines-number 1 and 4. A single ticket costs 1.00 BGN (jan 2013) and you pay to a person on the bus. If you can afford it,you can take a taxi. Here are some taxi phone numbers,which you might find useful: ☎ +35968622310, ☎ +35968645010

• Varosha Old Town- the architecture-historical resort of Lovech. The Varosha district dates from the Bulgarian Renaissance. It is famous for its churches "Saint Sunday" and "Holy Virgin Mary", The Vasil Levski Monument, The Middle-Aged Fortress of Lovech, Vasil Levski Museum, The Covered Bridge, The Art Gallery, Bash Bunar Alley, Stratesh Park the Black Monument and The White Monuments and many others.

• The Black and The White Monuments have been built in the memory of Bulgarian-Turkish battle in Lovech during the Russian-Turkish war in 1877. They are both located in Stratesh Park in Lovech. There are several more monuments in Lovech- The Vasil Levski Monument, The Ekzarh Joseph Monument and Todor Kirkov Monument.

• The Stratesh Park bears the name of the hill it is located on. The nature around the park is lovely. You can find the Lovech zoo in the Stratesh Park.

• Bash Bunar Alley is located at the south part of Lovech. Next to the Bash Bunar public drinking fountain there is a sculpture figure,depicting a man drinking water from a pitcher that a woman is holding in her hands. The rumor has is that the person who drinks from the water of that drinking fountain will stay in Lovech forever. Nowadays the Bash Bunar Alley is preferable place to rest and to entertain for both adults and children.

Buy

You can buy many different souvenirs from Lovech, that represents the town. You can find them in the shops on The Covered Bridge in Varosha.

Get out

Krushuna Falls (Крушунски водопад) are located near the village of Krushuna, 28 km from the city of Lovech [[4]]. They are famous with their picturesque landscape. This is the biggest water cascade in the country, with many travertine stages, rich of plants and animal species.The main waterfall drops from 20 m. It splits into several branches and creates few other waterfalls. For the convenience of the tourists an eco-trail was built, which allows you to enjoy the exquisite sight, inspired by the crystal water and fresh-green vegetation of the area.
