The sanctuary is named after the name of village adjacent to the sanctuary. The Lohabarrack Salt water Crocodile Sanctuary was established in 1983 with a view to Conserve the salt water crocodile and other biodiversity found in this area. It is a repository of both terrestrial as well as marine flora and fauna. The pristine tropical evergreen forests, luxuriant mangroves, sandy beaches which are frequently visited by marine turtles and creeks harboring salt water crocodiles make it a unique marine sanctuary.
