By boat[edit]

Caledonian MacBrayne [1] operate from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy daily. There are 1 to 2 ferries per day, taking 1 hour 45 minutes. Citylink [2] coaches from Glasgow via Fort William generally connect with the ferries on Skye.

By air[edit]

In the Outer Hebrides, there are airports in Stornoway (Isle of Lewis), Benbecula and Barra. These airports provide direct flights to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. The nearest to Lochmaddy is Benbecula.

By bus[edit]

Buses link North Uist with Berneray, Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay. As part of the Western Isles Overland Route combination of bus and ferry, you can travel in under a day from Stornoway or Castlebay on Barra [3].

Get around[edit]
