Central Lima is the centre or heart of Lima the capital city of Peru. Central Lima comprises of four areas; Centro Historico, Barrios Altos, Barrio Chino and Santa Beatriz. To the east of Centro Historico are the Barrios Altos and Barrio Chino. South of the historic centre is Santa Beatriz. Almost all of Central Lima is south of Rio Rimac except for Cerro San Cristobal and the area surrounding it.

Centro Historico or the historic centre of Lima is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the historic centre, Jirón de la Unión (Union Street) is of importance when navigating. The historic centre is divided east and west by Jirón de la Unión (Union Street), from which cuadras (blocks) are numbered beginning at 100 with the first number changing at the next cuadra (for example cuadra 4 will have street numbers in the range of 400 to 499).

Barrios Altos is where the oldest buildings in Lima can be found. Parque Universitario and remnants of the colonial city walls can be seen here.

Barrio Chino, as the name would suggest, is home to China Town. One of the most significant streets here is Calle Capon with the Arco Chino.

Santa Beatriz is home to the Estadio Nacional and Parque de la Reserva.

  • Cerro San Cristóbal, (12º 02' 04 S 77º 01' 04 W). The hill features a large Peruvian flag painted on its slopes and is situated just north of the Rimac river. With a summit approximately 368 meters above sea level, visitors can contemplate an incomparable landscape: the city with its high buildings, the course of the river Rimac, as well as the sea ports and districts. An observation point with an illuminated cross, a museum and a restaurant are located at the summit. Many tour companies include a visit here on their itineraries, tours can also be organised near the Plaza de Armas for S/.10 or an alternative is to take a taxi. (-12.0344,-77.0178)
