Krui is the principal port on the virginal west coast of Lampung Province. While the town itself is rather rough and unattractive, there are vast gorgeous white sand beaches stretching for miles and kilometers and miles to the north and south.
Accommodation is relatively undeveloped in this remote region of Lampung Province, and few people are fluent in English. Nevertheless a visit to Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, or surfing at Karang Nyimbor, Tanjung Setia, is highly recommended.
A charming native hostel, or losmen, has recently opened in Tanjung Setia, some 20km south of Krui. Kepalas Losmen welcomed the writer of this review with brand-new bedding, fried bananas and hot coffee.
Rp. 150,000/person (about USD 14 at current rates) includes three Indonesian meals. The losmen is within sight of a vast white sand beach, and is on the main road from Krui south to Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park and Kota Agung. The world-renowned surf site is less than a kilometer away.
