Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes in North America, contains a number of islands that serve as a major tourist, resort and summer home destinations. Located north of the southern shore of Lake Erie (also know as "America's North Coast" between Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio, the islands are accessible via ferry boat from a number of locations in Ohio. Lake Erie was named after the Native American tribe (the Erie) who lived along its southern shore prior to exploration by Europeans. A full list of Lake Erie Islands are as follows:
