Kyleakin

Kyleakin is a small town on Skye. It has become quieter since the Skye Bridge replaced the ferry to the mainland, but is an attractive small town and worth a stop.

Get in

By road

Skye is linked to the mainland by a bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin.

By train

Trains stop just the other side of the sea channel from Skye. About three trains daily go from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness.

By bus

A number of Scottish Citylink coaches run from Fort William, Glasgow and Inverness per day.

Local buses run every 30 minutes over the Skye Bridge between Kyleakin and Kyle of Lochalsh and less frequently to and from Broadford, Portree and Armadale.

Get around

Kyleakin is small enough to walk around.

Castle Moil, Kyleakin
  • Castle Moil. This ruined 14th century castle is a a short walk from the harbour and a relaxing spot overlooking the channel.

  • Hectors Plaice and Bothy, Station Road Kyle of Lochalsh, 01599 534248, [1]. Just over the bridge in Kyle, Hectors is a fab fish and chip shop with a separate cosy cafe next door. Good food and open all year round.
  • Harry's Coffee Shop, The Harbour, Kyleakin (Alongside the harbour.), 01599 534641. Great little cafe/coffee shop - friendly service and great food - very popular with locals and tourists alike!! Closed on Wednesdays and doesn't do evenings.
